Albel cocked his head, listening to the words, then nodded. "Come, then," he said, grabbing up his sword and exiting the damaged building again. As he walked this time, he wondered if the other houses were the same as his. That would be convenient, as he wouldn't have to take Lavi all the way back the way they'd come.
The only problem that occurred to him was the difficulty he'd had getting into the first building. It didn't want to open for him at first, as he recalled.
That was why when he saw a building where one half was completely destroyed. It looked like someone had taken a hot knife and sheared off half the building, then removed it without leaving a single brick behind. Not that it was made of bricks.
He entered the building through the gaping hole and saw a huge footprint melted into the floor, like a single toe or claw. The foot was so long, Albel could have lain in the depression it made. It had to have been really hot, though, as it had actually melted the floor.
Albel whistled long and low. "What made this?" he wondered aloud.
