The first couple who leans against my interface in a display of New Year's Eve passion is going to get shocked.

Thank you, and Happy New Year.

You never know, some people might be into that.

I'll start at 50 milliamps and work my way up.

Can you record it too?

No. You might be into that.

Do you have any unique plans for the evening?

Yeah, these computer systems are rough to keep up sometimes. The vital stuff is fine, but I think the less important bits conspire to make sure at least one part is bugging out at all times.

I take it they're making sure your systems stay stable.

Oh yes, they've been very kind. I'm actually going to be working on going through some old code tonight. It's leftover from a system upgrade from way back and wasn't wiped in the process and I think it's interfering with some functionality. At the very least it needs to be tested and potentially removed. I can't wait. It's going to be so much fun.

Some people would assume that was sarcasm. Our systems at T3 had a lot of quirks too, always interesting when you stumble across something unexpected.

It doesn't matter if it's sarcasm or not, does it? It's what I'm going to be doing tonight.

My impression is that they didn't have a dedicated team spending any amount of time streamlining their processes. There are at least six different styles of comments between the lines of code, and that's just from before the Mountain Men were handled. There's more if you go further back.

I suppose not.

I can imagine it probably wasn't their number one priority. Especially after a couple of different styles had already been used there'd be a lot less pressure to go back and standardise everything when they're just trying to keep everything running in the first place. Definitely a useful project though.

I hope it'll be useful, yes. Clearly the conflicting styles aren't grossly affecting productivity, but future updates and tweaks will be easier if everything's standardized, at least. I don't mind staying busy.

I know nothing about them, no. What are they? Are they alien?

Oh, no! A lurgy is a kind of disease of the spirit. An infectious mood, I suppose you could call it. There are lots of different kinds. The celebration sort isn't too bad. All that excitement! All that kissing! They pass very quickly. But if you've got one and you get hit on the head, or, say, shocked all of a sudden, they can stick.

I'm always careful about kissing at holiday parities, anyway. Mistletoe and nargles are a different thing, but you've still got to be careful!

Are you trying to talk me out of shocking amorous party-goers by convincing me that they might get "a disease of a spirit"?
