(005) Severus Snape
[Filter: People who might work with metal]

I am working on putting together an understanding of what ingredients are available for potion making, which, in theory, has the opportunity to assist us in medicines and the like here. But before I can do any testing, I must put my hands on a pewter cauldron. Size two would be helpful (and I can provide dimensions for such a thing), but I can work without the exact dimensions.

The metal, however, and the process by which one is made - those are more difficult. What are the likelihood that we have the materials to make a pewter cauldron?

[Filter: Remus Lupin]
I almost feel guilty that I am unable to make the potion for you.

I It isn't as if I've ever used it before. I have no idea what I'm missing.

I realize that. It just seems absurd to have the knowledge and no way to utilize it to benefit anyone.

Are you able to use any of your potions skills here? Apart from what Neville had with him I can't imagine there's a lot by way of ingredients.

At this point mostly categorizing and the like. I'm going to see if I can get a cauldron and if I can, then I can start running some experiments to see if I can determine reactions and whether they match what we know should happen.

Once I've determined that, then I can look to see what sorts of ingredients are available, and what potions can be made. I suspect there are a few medical potions that might be able to be made if things act as they should - it's a lot of ifs.

It's a lot of ifs, but it seems like something you could manage. [...] You're brilliant with potions.

Severus, I don't know if we're friends or not.

Potions are something I've always been able to understand.

I hadn't really wasted much time fretting about it. You are one of the most tolerable people from home is all.

Why potions, in particular?

Tolerable? I'll accept tolerable.

Why not? I've just always had a knack. My mother was good at them as well, perhaps it came from her. Lily was decent at them - so I suppose I tended to put effort into the class as well... but I generally seemed to understand them even outside of that.

Well, you aren't Black. Or Potter. I don't know what you are expecting me to say here.

I suppose everyone falls into their field of interest and everyone has their talents, I'm just always curious as to why. I'm sort of rubbish at potions work, compared to other things.

Nothing, I also find you tolerable. And not terrible, which is a surprise.

I cannot particularly explain to you why I feel I have a natural affinity for the subject. I can say that I appreciate the preciseness and particular art of it.

Don't hurt yourself, Lupin.

I think part of me always got disgusted by some of the more peculiar ingredients. I've got a rather sensitive nose.

Oh, please, I'm not saying I like you. Don't get excited.

Side effects, it would make sense that there would be certain potions in particular that would be dreadful to brew. I always thought you were just squeamish - well, for a long time I thought you were just squeamish. It made some sense later on, although I didn't spend much time thinking on it.

You think that's enough to get me excited? Hardly.

I'm also just a little squeamish.

For example, confessing my love for you is turning my stomach a little.

Pewter's harder to come by here, but if I can't find enough I might be able to supplement it with additional tin and copper — which is going to lower the antimony ratio and make the pewter softer and possibly not useful.

Enough searching and I might find what you need. I don't know what constitutes "size two."

If straight up copper is easier to come by then we could work with that as well. I'm familiar enough with the differences in ingredients and brew times that I could probably do that.

Size 2 is 10" high by 10" wide and will hold nearly 5 litres.

Between 3/4" and 1". With the magical reinforcement it needs, the 3/4" would likely work.

In a way. It isn't directly in the sense that I don't have all of the ingredients I need, but without a cauldron I cannot begin even to think about what I might be able to do for anyone. I don't know what the radiation will do to the ingredients I can find here, or the metal for that matter. A cauldron is at least a first step.

Well, I need a cauldron to brew things in. The Pewter is the standard - what people begin with, but Copper is actually more efficient as a conductor. You have to know the timing on things, which I generally do.

There is a magical component though - a stainless steel pot would simply not brew correctly.

I appreciate your willingness to assist. I'm hopeful that even if I can do nothing for the werewolves, I can at least brew other potions to help here. I miss doing what I know.
