It was nice to hear him laugh. Katniss wasn't sure that had actually happened since Annie had left. Then again, she hadn't tried to make him laugh. She had known that it wasn't the time for jokes. Not even for him. It was hard to regret it as much if it had genuinely amused him.
She reached over and tousled his hair. "You're my family, though," she said lightly, though she meant it. "So don't think you're getting away from me that easily."
Which also meant that no thanks was necessary. The people that Katniss cared about, blood related or not, had her full and unwavering loyalty and protection. With Finnick it was even more pronounced, because she owed him, because she'd already let him down once. She wasn't going to do that again.
