There was no light. I expected it, had even made a study of it in those seconds, had more or less resigned myself to the belief that (as Hugo says) 'a conflagration creates an aurora' ... but it was not to be so. Here I woke. Here I am. Am I I suppose death can be another shade to life. For I heard Evans, for I saw Evans behind the veil of life and when he spoke to me it was out of proportion. Here, now. Being extinguished as I am, I suppose proportion is limitless. I suppose we are all a piece of it.
