► Mod Notes ► THE RULES HAVE CHANGED. The "senior discount" now applies to everybody but "seniors." That means that you need two journals, two threads or one of each to meet activity requirements. We don't want you to thread or journal less - be involved and thread or journal whenever you find it necessary - but we don't feel like we need to dictate exactly how you do that. If you're churning out three or four threads but only one journal, it's not really fair to call you inactive. The problem isn't with a lack of threads or journals anyway - it's with a lack of comments. There are some people who aren't doing their best to interact with everyone. If you're only in the game for a PSL, go elsewhere. ► Characters over the age of 35 technically no longer have requirements but that doesn't mean we won't kick you out for inactivity if you never do anything. Really, we expect you to maintain the same level of activity but nobody's going to stress about it if some months are more difficult than others. ► That said, all characters, regardless of age, will be expected to make their presence known consistently. You should be doing something every week that reminds us you still exist, whether that's a journal, a thread or commenting enough that we'll notice you've been around. Regardless of whether or not you've posted or threaded in a particular week, we still expect regular comments. Not every character will have something to say to every journal entry but if you can't force them to participate in discussions on a somewhat regular basis, you don't have a good enough handle on your character to be playing them. ► As a Christmas gift, the new requirements have been retroactively applied for November to everybody who voted for Minister. ► We're making changes to Witch Weekly as well. From now on, a greatly reduced Witch Weekly will come out every Sunday, unless it's a holiday. Because we're up to four WWs in a typical month now, we'll only have one to three pages from each issue. This means you'll need to be sure to tell us when you want your character featured because we'll have less space and won't get to as many people. ► Every Monday this schedule will be updated with the Quidditch scores for the week. Yes, we frequently forget. If that happens, just make up whatever you want. After that, it's all on you to talk about your games, what happened in them, etc. The team bios page has a list of both in-game and OC players on the teams. If you want to make up names for the other players on your team, just drop box the names and pbs to us, and we'll get them on the list. ► You're still more than welcome to do our OTAs. If you've taken one and not posted, please do so promptly. ► Any plot ideas or events? We're not requiring you to come up with one, but if you have any, we'd love to hear them! ► Character Gains/Losses Please type your username into the box below, then press "Friends Button." Remember to do it for each of your characters. You have to be logged into a journal to use it for that particular journal. A note about requirements. If you have an 'X' next to your name at the end-of-the-month check, you MUST meet monthly requirements at the next end-of-the-month check, or your character will be removed from the game. ► Ongoing Events Election season is upon us! The list of candidates for Minister for Magic can be found here. Don't forget - even though we keep referring to them as "candidates," nobody is technically running for the office of Minister. The public will vote for Wizengamot members, then the Wizengamot will appoint a new Minister. Which, yes, means there are Wizengamot elections your character should probably be concerned with that'll take place December 2nd. The ban on new Apparation licences is still in effect until Minister Smethwyk gets around to dealing with that. Similarly, travel in muggle areas is still restricted for the first few days of the month. ► Upcoming Events On December 2nd, the public will vote for Wizengamot members to represent them. In some areas, this is almost a non-issue. Many areas have no competition at all and some have races that are considered such sure bets that almost nobody will bother to vote at all. More populated areas, like around Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley will have close and highly contested races that will draw voters but, generally speaking, there's not a lot of interest. Overall, about 25% of people vote (for comparison, the approximate average for the US is 50% and the UK is 75%). Those who do vote can do so either in-person at the Ministry or by owl. On the 5th, the new Wizengamot will appoint a new Minister for Magic to replace Kingsley Shacklebolt. The discussion will take several hours, during which time Tiberius McLaggen, Glinda Crook and even Harry Potter will each be seriously considered. In the end, however, the Wizengamot will come to a strong consensus and appoint Corinna Smethwyk as the new Minister for Magic. By the end of her first day in office, she'll have successfully rescinded the travel restrictions. On the 8th, 16th 22nd, people from the List will be attacked in some way by OSTENDO. The list came out last January and by it's anniversary, we'd like it if everyone on the list were targeted at least once. That means that we've got a little over a month to fit in John Dawlish, Gwen Montgomery, Harry Potter, Walden Macnair and Evan Rosier. Please comment to claim a date and give us some ideas about what you would or would not like to have happen. The dates are just a suggestion and can be moved. You can also wait until January if you'd like. OSTENDO members can also comment to volunteer to be the ones on the other side of that equation. Just after dinnertime on December 12th, people listening to the WWN will be in for a terrible shock. An "audio collage" of various muggle news reports/personal taped reactions to witnessing magic will be broadcast over the WWN, and those running the network will be powerless to stop it. Although brief, it will cause a bit of a panic. Full text of the incident will be made available on the date. As is traditional, the Ministry will be hosting its annual holiday party at Harford's Theatre on December 22nd. It's a black tie event open to all Ministry employees with dancing, champagne, a speech by the new Minister and an indoor fireworks display. There are a lot of holidays at the end of the month. You're all free to host parties/plan your own celebrations however you see fit. |
