[OOC: this is for Be Careful What You Wished for. Simon asked for his daughter back. He didn't specify for how long, enjoy seeing what he's like in a good mood while it lasts]

This generally isn't the sort of thing I would do, but I find myself needing some solid proof I'm not dreaming so it was well worth the time I spent working out what I was doing.

No one needs to keep their eyes open for the most perfect girl on my account any longer, even though she's refusing to show anyone but me her face. I'm afraid my August can be quite shy at times, she's like her mother that way. A mother who will probably be upset with me for presenting our daughter to strangers like this if I ever face her again, but this might be the first time I haven't been scared of my wife's anger.

As I am I, even if being unsure what the two of us are going to do just yet leaves me a bit out of sorts.

Before, the plan was I would return to the home we all shared together but that seems unlikely now. But until we have to depart this place, I'm going to delay that conversation in favor of spending time doing things like finding her a pair of proper shoes. Which she'll probably discard soon after they're purchased, but that will just prove she's still my girl no matter how much time has passed.

	Not when I last saw her she didn't. I once came home to find her wandering barefoot in her mother's rose garden claiming a pair of very expensive shoes made to her measurements pinched her toes. 	Over a century. I'd be more hesitant to admit that under normal conditions, but considering where we've all found ourselves, it seems not quite as necessary to hide that fact to keep myself from becoming a pile of ash. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Quite. There was a time when those with shorter life spans still believed my kind existed, and were so afraid or jealous of us that they tended to react violently to our presence. It is, but in their defense some of my people can use our abilities' to be be very cruel to those without means to defend themselves. No side was ever entirely without fault. But it has changed how we interact with their world, for better or worse.

I hope you get the chance to know him, if you wish to. And if you don't...I hope you find peace however you can. Family can be a difficult thing, even when we have all the time in the world with each other.

Quite well, luckily. Better than I am, I think. She'd been a long way from home for quite awhile, and if...my own attempts to locate her before are much to go by, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we had somewhat similar experiences in being displaced. She won't tell me much yet of the time we spent apart, though. I think she still worries about how much I'll pass on to her mother.

Oh, logically yes. But she's a young girl who had an rather intense disagreement with her mother the last time they saw each other, I can't fault her for worrying, especially since my Amy has never been one to let such things lie easily. That might be a blessing of us finding each other this way, we'll be able to talk things out on our own before I have to play mediator for the two of them.

I'm afraid I am entirely at fault if there is any, in this case. There was a woman in the marketplace with power, and I was either brave or foolish enough to take the chance she wasn't lying about her capabilities and I didn't consider that it might be prudent to let anyone else know beforehand.

Aside from a change of clothes and proper shoes, not as yet. She's been too occupied looking about to properly prey upon my indulgent side so far.

	No, that's quite understandable. Magical trades of this kind are far more common where I'm from. From now on, I will never have a pleasant dream when I sleep. Because telling such things where I'm from to those who are not saw many of my people burned at the stake not that long past.

Oh, I realize quite well what I have done. I sold away far more to try to find my August long before I came here. I told myself when she was lost that I would do anything, give anything, to find her again. I have been a liar in many things, but I would not make myself one in this.

An easy promise for one man to make for others. But given our small numbers, one I can believe. But there is a reason I have done my best to be discrete in the markets and such.

'Talk to her'. By which you mean question her means, or ask for my payment back. Neither of which is likely to end well for anyone, not just myself. Anyone with the power to retreive a girl none had seen for as long as my August was missing, you do not 'talk' to them. You ask, you bargain, you come to an arrangement or don't, and then you leave if you value keeping the shape you hold or your current inventory of organs. As I said, I have traded away greater things. I have lost nothing that matters, and fail to see how it should matter to you.

That is something I couldn't answer. My...people, we're more afraid to end than perhaps we should be. We don't have anywhere kind or peaceful for our dead. They just stop, and oftentimes we don't forgive them for leaving us behind. If I were a hero I might tell you it was wrong, but I've never been that. I'd barge through any gate between me and mine.

My wife has yet to fall from the branch, even if I haven't seen her in some time, and she is a much harder bloom to crush than I could ever hope to be. But my August...she is worth everything. I've spent...more than I thought I had, trying to find her again.
