BOOM! ...and other plotty things that may or may not go bump in the night
Yes, it is indeed time for the BOOM plot of mass trauma and destruction. Just to remind everyone right off the bat, this is an opt in plot, no one has to be involved if they don't want to, but anyone who wants to be can.
On Saturday and Sunday, May 21 and 22, there is a field trip to the Smithsonian scheduled for the middle and high schools. Any middle or high school character you want to send on the trip can go, as part of a class, for extra credit, for cultural enrichment. Whatever. College students and cadets may also attend as chaperons. College students may volunteer, for extra credit in classes or just because they'd like to hit the Smithsonian and play babysitter. Cadets may volunteer or, if you have a character you want in on it who just wouldn't go of their own volition they can be assigned.
As for the plot itself! On Saturday afternoon, when everyone is swapping between tour groups/meeting up for lunch/etc, there will be a catastrophically violent manifestation on the mall. There will be a crater. Buildings will collapse. People will die. We'll be providing a map showing exactly where this is happening and where the worst of the damage will be so that everyone can sort out where their characters are and what they're doing when it goes down.
Please bear in mind that we will be taking Josh out with this plot as well, so that anyone wanting to wallow in some longer term injury-induced trauma and angst will have that option open to them. This means that if you want your kid to die? There needs to be someone around to give them CPR and the injuries themselves need be something that can be dealt with through old fashioned surgical techniques, or by healers who are basically little or no more effective than old fashioned surgery. Also, that you'll want to make sure anything you inflict on your character is something you are willing to live with the consequences of, because by the time Josh is recovered he may or may not be asked to 'fix' remaining injuries. Warren will be available for transfusions for those wanting more extreme injuries with quicker healing, but you his blood will doubtless be saved for the very worst injuries and you do have to be the same blood type for that to work.
While there is no limit on how many characters can attend the trip (want to send all of yours? Feel free!) we are asking that no one seriously injure more than two. Cuts and bruises and scrapes are fine for everyone, of course, but if you want traumatic injury please pick out no more than two of you characters and please let us know here when you've decided both which of yours will attend and which, if any, will be injured. If you'd prefer that your injured characters remain a surprise feel free to email or IM a mod instead, as we do need to be notified in advance.
As for everyone else, there's going to be a lot of heroic rescuing to be done, feel free to have at it! Most of the high school and all of the college and cadet students should be not just very adept in the use of their powers, but pretty darned organized and cool under pressure. The emergency response time for this is probably not going to be much more than ten minutes, given the location and severity of the event, but in the ten minutes before SHIELD shows up and takes over there should be ample time for everyone to shine, especially the SHIELD cadets or those hoping to be recruited. Rescue people from the rubble, keep damaged buildings from collapsing further, usher people to safe zones and set up triage and generally start organizing. Once SHIELD shows up the 'civilian' students will be shuffled out of the way to make room for the pros, but the cadets will likely be absorbed into the operation and allowed to continue to help.
There will be television crews showing up (and being kept away from the victims and out of the disaster area), and it will be reported on extensively. Keep the publicity in mind and how it will affect your characters, as a lot of the students are very high profile.
Because this is a pretty big event, and could take a while to play, we'll be opening up posting starting on Thursday the 19th so hopefully we can get through everything with a minimum of backdating necessary.
And, yes, this manifestation will be triggered by the drug which was discussed in chat a couple of weeks back. We'll be getting more information out on that soon as well, so that you know how much your characters may or may not be aware of with regards to it.
Also, just on a note for both IC and OOC scheduling as the end of the school year draws near! Prom is scheduled for the last weekend in May, and graduation will take place in the second (college) and third (high school) weeks of June. There will probably also be an open house for clubs somewhere before the end of school geared towards recruiting new members for the next school year.
We're planning on at least 2 chats to answer questions, take suggestions, and work out details, so hopefully everyone can make one of them. The first is this Wednesday (sorry for the short notice) at 9pm Eastern and the second this Friday at 8pm Eastern. If there appears to be need for a third we'll schedule one for sometime next week.
If you have questions or comments feel free to ping a mod or drop them here.
(edited to move chat schedule to the end and outside of the cut)
