Emma had seated herself outside her door, stretching while she waited for Julian. Just from the few words she'd gotten online she knew they'd want privacy and dorm rooms just didn't cut it. They'd find a stairwell or something. A supply closet if they had to.

She adjusted her earbuds and spread her legs out into a split, leaning down low to the floor before sitting up and looking down the hall for Julian. If he didn't show in the next two minutes she was going to send him a little mental demand to know why.

I hate it. You know that. I hate being this pathetic about him. About Josh, for fuck's sake.

Julian jumped to his feet, full of restless energy, needing to pace.

Josh Foley, Mr. Sunshine and Healing Rainbows. He's so Goddamned good and earnest that it makes me want to-- And blind. He's so fucking blind, Emma. How can I be in love with someone so stupidly blind, someone who refuses to love me back?

He kicked a crate, hard, then whirled back to look at her, eyes seething green. He didn't even try to find out why I was upset before jumping all over me. And Kevin, leaping in to defend him. His boyfriend. It's not supposed to be like this.

Emma had her own opinions about whether someone who'd do that deserved Julian's love. After all, she knew better than most how amazing Julian was. But that wasn't going to help here and fortunately for Emma no one was reading her mind.

I know, she said, getting up to go over to him. Sometimes the world just doesn't do the things we want it to. People don't... People disappoint us.

	He's self-centered, but never cruel, Julian said. Josh was such an unusual creature, able to be completely inward focused while still caring desperately about everyone around him.
