Emma
The door was unlocked like Sam had promised, and partially open as well, and he was sitting on his bed with the 'baby' lying in his lap, cooing quietly while he read his physics text aloud to her in a quiet singsong.

"My mother would be so proud," she sighed.

"Well, y'know you wouldn't actually do it," he pointed out. "Not when you're worried about it an' all."

"Sometimes you can't help but do what you worry most about."

"An' sometimes you can," he answered gently.

"Yes, but there's still the risk."

"Well, yeah," he conceded quietly as he shifted Claire and checked to make sure she didn't need a diaper change before Emma got back with her bottle. "But I figure there's a risk of come kind with everything, yeah?"

"Of course there is. But I can pick the risks I take," Emma told him as she sat down with the bottle in hand.

"Yeah. Definitely." He wasn't trying to talk her into kids, he just doubted she'd do anywhere near as bad as she seemed to think if she did decide she wanted them someday. He handed Claire over, supporting her head carefully as he settled her in Emma's arms, watching in something like awe as he tiny fists flailed almost exactly like a real baby and her face puckered up.

Emma watched and shook her head slowly as she 'fed' Claire. "She looks so realistic. But she's just not there. It's bizarre."

"Yeah, pretty much the fanciest baby doll ever," Sam agreed, watching as the baby took the bottle and her tiny hands slowed then came to rest on it. "If she didn't keep track of who had her all the time I could prob'ly leave her with my little sisters an' they'd think they'd won a prize, gettin' t'take care of her pretty much every wakin' moment. Think they'd prob'ly be plenty happy with givin' her back at bed time, though."

"Think they'd want some not-really-used dolls?" Emma asked. "I'm sure my aunt will never notice I gave them away."

Sam hesitated for a moment. "If you're sure you don't want 'em an' she won't notice," he finally answered. "They'd prob'ly think that was 'bout the best thing ever."

"They take up an entire wall of my bedroom at home and she never visits," Emma assured him. "I'd rather someone enjoy them than have them sit there, staring at me."
