Chase was glad he'd brought his skiing gear. It made waiting outside in just below freezing temps easier. He'd had to rebuild his cover a bit, but thanks to Drake and his tendency to blow snow at any excuse, there was more than enough snow still for a short term assault.

It hadn't been that hard to convert his small portable tennis ball launcher for snow. It wasn't like he expected it to last any longer than the day. Not with people who could blow up buildings as a knee jerk reaction. Which was probably why this was dumb, but thus far, the most exciting thing that had happened was getting together with Gert.

That was awesome. But that just meant he had a partner-in-crime. Which was pointless unless they were making some sort of trouble. So, snowball ambush outside their dorm early Sunday morning.

For now all there was to do is drink coffee and wait for their first victims though. "So am I gonna get a treat for this genius idea?" he teased Gert as he looked back at her over his shoulder.

"Yeah, but they probably weren't expecting a snow ball shooter at dawn," he pointed out. "Although I did warn them."

Hey, if she wanted him to show off at the beach, all she had to do was say so. He just figured she didn't want to go back to California and deal with their parents for spring break. Especially when (and not if, they really couldn't hide it long) they found out they were sort of together. Hell, as much as they'd pushed him and Gert together, he was surprised they hadn't just gone ahead and arrange a marriage like parents used to do the Dark Ages. He wouldn't put it past them.

Chase laughed and turned his face to kiss Gert's cheek. "Hey, I only sexually harass beautiful girls," he protested. "So he's safe from me? Some of the others? Yeah, not so much."

That was a good argument. But it just didn't feel right. "I torqued the power way down, but look at him, he's like a twig. He'd break if you breathed on him too hard. I say we hold out for a bigger, more challenging target."

"One should always expect the unexpected, and well," she shrugged, "trust almost no one." That phrase had sounded better when she had been able to say "no one" with absolute conviction. Hopefully Chase wouldn't catch on to it and accuse her of being sappy again.

Gert was not entirely certain that there wasn't a pre-arranged marriage. There had been a few times during her life when her parents had mentioned the word dowry, started laughing and then just shook their heads at her when she looked at them askance over whatever book she happened to be reading.

"Yes, we're all quite fond of your bumbling attention."

Sighing, Gert reached past him and hit the switch. "Oops." She leaned back slightly and watch the snowball. "I suppose this will be the next great shot heard round the world." Then she shrugged at him. "Someone has to start the mayhem. Even if it hits him, which it might not because it's not as though I aimed, it won't hurt, and the thing has begun now."

Gert took another sip from her coffee and settled in to watch the game.

Adrian was trying to figure out why the college dorms gave off the aura of adulthood even in the air around them when the first snowball hit him in the shoulder. For a moment he just blinked, not understanding, when the second one caught him on the collarbones. The snowballs were wet and exploded into powder and slush upon contact and by the time he'd come to enough to get out of the way his shirt and sweater were soaked. Adrian slipped and slid out of the way and didn't bother to find the source of the onslaught. He just got the hell out of the way and ran inside Castle Hall, teeth chattering.

Jared had started to jog toward what he was pretty sure was Adrian. He had a hand raised to wave and was about to call out when he saw the snow balls hit.

"Hey. What the fuck?" he called out and then started running.

He rounded the corner in time to see his brother duck into the dorm and glanced around looking for the source of the assault. "You think it's funny to throw snowballs at some little kid, huh? What sort of assholes are you?" He was too mad to really stop and look so he just stood there, head whipping around and still looking for their source.

Unknown to him, he was in the perfect target position.

Chase wasn't going to accuse her of being sappy. She was the one who started that. He'd just said the poem had been more cheerful than the others. She was the one who used the term sappy. So there.

Bumbling attention. Ha. "Didn't hear you complaining the other night," he pointed out suggestively.

Gert overruled his compunctions and started the snowball launcher. Chase let out a yelp, but was relieved to see the wet, powdery snowballs didn't seem to do any harm. Okay, then.

The some guy came out of nowhere, screaming at them for throwing snowballs at the kid. What the hell? It was snow. It was soft snow even. Chase laughed and turned the snowball shooter towards the guy.

Seriously, the people around here needed to learn to relax.

Gert looked at him steadily over her glasses for a moment. "Let us not forget what I have to compare you to." She patted his head.

Then she sat back, smiled over her coffee and waited to see what would happen. It was sadly predictable. The snowballs shot out, the kid was hit and then some other guy was throwing a fit. Not quite what she was hoping for, and she was sure that Chase would be disappointed as well. However the experiment had just begun; it was entirely too early to start considering their results.

"He doesn't sound amused. Yet."

((OOC: Adrian skipped with permission))

Jared stood, hands clenched, eyes narrowed, wheeling around and trying to figure out where the others were hiding. The ones who had thrown snowballs at his brother. It started with something small. It always did. And then things go worse. So he would knock someone's lights out before they got worse.

It was while he was standing there, just surveying the area, too angry to pay proper attention to anything, that one of the snowballs hit him. Jared wouldn't even have noticed it if it hadn't been for the sound. Snowballs, like everything else, hit his field and then just fell away. There was a slightly audible thwhack, though.

He watched the next one, located where it seemed to be coming from and then started running towards it full speed.
