Abby Spencer was having a relatively slow day. However, it was always best to seem busy, especially given how hectic things had been lately. What had, months ago, seemed like a smooth course for Integration had stumbled and stalled in a quagmire of protests, violence, and a grating lack of cooperation with the muggle Ministry. Half the people in the building seemed on edge, but departments like hers were rarely troubled overly much unless there was some kind of zoning restriction.
With all these plans for Integration, there was talk of merging the whole department with a committee to enable magical and muggle collaboration, but as forming a charter and responsibilities for that committee was no closer to completion now than they were last month, things had dropped down to a snail's pace as more and more projects began backing up.
"Welcome to the Zoning Desk of the Department for International Magical Cooperation, how may I help you?" she rattled off, trying not to focus on just how trite the name of her desk sounded through her stock greeting.
