The fullness of the moon was thankfully short lived, shining upon their animal forms for little more than a couple of hours before the rising sun began to filter rays of burning amber through the dark. Sirius had never been more glad to see the sun pouring through the dirty windows of the Shrieking Shack, turning immediately back to human as the first spasms of transformation caught Remus' limbs.
Sirius turned towards the bed, digging underneath to find the blankets and clothes buried beneath. He threw a thick blanket towards James, to wrap up Remus. The man was a mess of scratches and bites they had been unable to discourage, and as Sirius moved he could feel the tug of a scratch along his own side, and deep claw marks in his back. James had presumably fared his own share of scratches and marks, but nothing could compare to the harm Remus had caused his own flesh.
He was only marginally confident that they could make him well themselves. St Mungos was hardly welcoming of werewolves, and Sirius considered that 'werewolves who are dead' would not be high on the treatment priority list.
Perhaps it was because this was the first transformation, or perhaps the wolf was objecting to the captivity the wolfsbane potion had formerly held it in. Either way it ranked amongst the nastiest of transformation Sirius could remember.
Eyes heavy and weary, Sirius tugged on his clothing, passing over James'. They needed to get Remus home, to prepare the potions Sirius had bought just in case. He looked down at Remus, whose eyes were closed. For a moment he was lost in thought, then snapped his glance over towards James.
