Closed to Jenny

The Master strode along the busy streets of cardiff watching the humans as he went past.  They were so dull, so drab, so... uninteresting.  He had set up a temporary base of operations in a warehouse but the necessity of equipment was forcing him to go out in public again.  And yet again the Master found himself wishing he had found some lackeys to do his bidding.   If he had simply found a couple of weakminded humans to do what he wanted then he wouldn't be doing this kind of legwork on his own.  There was the other reason as well.  Other than his hair, his appearance had not shifted at all.  Of course, nobody had recognized him yet... but there was always the off-chance that one of the humans was paying the least bit of attention.  Not that the Master truly cared.  The humans didn't matter.  Never did in fact.  It would come down to the Doctor and the Master in the end.  Just like it always did.

Despite everything that has happened, despite crashing (very literally) into Cardiff, despite coming face to face with her family, Jenny can't resist that ever-present urge. To go out, to explore. To meet the people of this city, to fall into an adventure like she so often does. So, with that in mind, she leaves the Hub and begins to walk the streets.

Grinning from ear to ear, Jenny does her best to take in her surroundings. She gives a small nod to those that she makes eye contact with. She stops every so often, to take in the smells of different restaurants or to stand, bewildered, at the sight of technology that is ancient to her. All in all, she's enjoying herself quite a bit.

Until she suddenly stops moving, her head cocking to the right. To the outsider, it looks as if she's suddenly hearing something, as if she's really trying to pay attention. If only the actual sensation were that simple to pin down. It's more of a...knowing. A feeling of connection. And she only feels that with two people (one a bit less, seeing as he's half-human). She turns swiftly, expecting to see her father, but coming face to face with someone else entirely. But, instead of looking disappointed, her grin returns to her face, "Well, aren't you a surprise?"

The Master had been completely absorbed in his thoughts when something had pushed itself to the forefront. Something that he very rarely felt. Another timelord. After spending a second glancing for the Doctor, the Master realized it wasn't him. Instead it was a young blond walking along in front of him, minding her own business. Well, not exactly minding her own business. She was seemingly stopping at every single restaurant and gawking about like a fish out of water. Still, the Master was fascinated. Another timelord? It shouldn't be possible. He started following her, only to have her spin about.

"Well, aren't you a surprise?"

The Master responded in a perfect imitation of the areas accent, "I'm sorry miss, do I know you?" His face took on the expression of a person truly innocent of facts.

Jenny's grin softens a bit before she says, "You feel it, too. I know you do. I thought it was impossible. My dad said he was the only one left... Well, then again, I'd already killed that theory, hadn't I...And then there's the half-human version of him..." She forces herself to pause, her grin widening again as she adds, "You're like him. Both of them. Like me---well, I'm more of a lady, really. But still...you're a Time Lord."

The excitement within her is already starting to build. Another Time Lord! She remembers when her dad talked about home, after they had just met. It had been obvious to her how alone he felt, how much he missed being around people that were like him. And then, after her supposed death...for him to go off again, believing that he was truly on his own... Well, it made all of this even better, didn't it? The fact that she's returned to him, and now this man! What a great start to a new adventure!

And just like that she gave it all away. Indeed, it was a bit of a disappointment for the Master. After all, he hadn't even tried at all and she had already divulged who she was. The Doctor had a daughter. It was odd, really. And it was upsetting. All this time alone, and he finally finds another time lord and she has to be related to the Doctor. Did he have to ruin everything?

Still, that didn't mean she wouldn't be useful. He put on his best excited face. "A time lord? You mean, you really are one too? This is fantastic! I thought I was the only one left! But here you are. You are real aren't you?" He smiles disarmingly. "Shall we trade stories, then?"

Jenny nods in understanding, "My dad thought the same thing! Oh, he's going to be so happy to meet you! Though I guess it's possible he knows you from before, from your home.... And as far as trading stories goes, you'll have to talk to my dad to get his. Don't know very much of it myself, to be honest." Though she does plan on changing that, and soon.

"As for my own, it's pretty short. Traveling the worlds, seeking out adventures, helping out where I can. It's a good way of life. My dad's, too, really." Though his adventures span space as well as time.

"Oh, I'm sure he will be thrilled to see me." The Master said, a sly grin covering his face. "Just thrilled. And traveling worlds you say? It sounds quite exciting actually. I used to do those kinds of things... well, that is before I got stranded here. Of course, I have the time war to thank for that... I don't suppose your father fought in the time war?" His face changed to a pleasant smile as he motioned with his arms back the way he had come. "I am getting ahead of myself. Perhaps we can talk more at my house?"

"You're stranded as well? Did you come through the Rift? Brought me crashing in, too. Without the decency of bringing along my shuttle, or a way to get back to my time. But maybe my dad and his friends can help you get back." Jenny isn't sure what she's supposed to do anymore. The whole point of following Alice to Jack had been to get back home. But, to her, getting back home was a means to an end. A chance at seeing her dad. And now with him, both of them, here...she doesn't want to leave. She wants to stay with them, to travel with them, explore. But do they want that? Does the offer from months ago still stand?

"I don't suppose your father fought in the time war?"

That takes the smile from Jenny's face, a rarity. "Yeah. Yeah, he did. He doesn't like to talk about it, though. And he doesn't like fighting, or violence of any kind, really." Makes her ashamed of who she was when she was first born. A shoot first, ask questions later sort of girl.

She hasn't picked up a gun since that day.

"...Perhaps we can talk more at my house?"

Her smile returns, "Of course. Should probably call my dad when we get there, let him know that I haven't run off. Don't worry, though, I won't spoil the surprise."

"Yeah. Yeah, he did. He doesn't like to talk about it, though. And he doesn't like fighting, or violence of any kind, really."

"Yes, I can understand why." The Master said, his face showing true sympathy. "Not a very pleasant subject, as I'm sure you understand."

"Of course. Should probably call my dad when we get there, let him know that I haven't run off. Don't worry, though, I won't spoil the surprise."

The Master gave a smile to reassure her. "Oh, I'm sure you wont. I'm sure you wont. It is a good idea though. After all, we wouldn't want him to worry about you." He looked around for a moment as if he was unsure of which direction to go. "Well would you look at that? You've made me forget what I even came out for. It must be all the excitement! Another time lord. Who could have guessed?" He extended his arm in a gentlemanly fashion. "Now, shall we go?"

"I do. I was born into a war. Created to be a soldier. ...But we carry on, yeah?" Jenny smiles at him, pushing away from a subject she doesn't want to talk about, a past she'd rather forget.

"...Now, shall we go?"

"And he would worry. I haven't known my father for very long, but he has a habit of forgetting that I'm not a child, always looking out for me. What a dad does, I suppose." Jenny takes the man's arm, "And yes, we shall!" She laughs, "In all of this excitement, you've forgotten why you're out and about, and I've forgotten my manners. We haven't even introduced ourselves! I'm Jenny." She can't help but grin after she says her name. She loves it. It's something that's uniquely hers, something that says so much about who she is while barely saying anything at all.

"Yes, of course he does. Fathers are like that. Especially time lord fathers. Why, I still remember my own father back on Gallifrey. Why, I would be that if something happened to you he would move the world to get you back and then move it back to make you happy."

He took her arm and smiled while he began walking back towards the warehouse he had just come from.

We haven't even introduced ourselves! I'm Jenny."

The Master stops momentarily and makes a show of shaking Jenny's hand. "Pleased to meet you Jenny. I'm Tremas. Tremas Smarte." After the introductions were made, The Master continued leading the unsuspecting Jenny towards their destination. He slid his hand into his pocket, allowing his fingers to rest on his laser screwdriver. It was almost time to end the charade...

Jenny nods thoughtfully, "Yeah. Yeah, that's my dad. He's always trying to help other people, always putting them before himself. It's what he does, really. Of course, he loves traveling through time, having adventures. But the helping people...that's what makes him who he really is."

She laughs lightly as the man makes a big show of their handshake, "Nice to meet you, too, Tremas. And what a brilliant name. I love names. They say so much about people. Ours are pretty similar---more common. Not my dad, though. He's called the Doctor. I know, it's a bit odd. But I told you about him and, as someone who likes to help people, to fix them...it's rather fitting, yeah?"

"That sounds a bit odd. I mean, his name is the doctor? Surely he has an actual name. Doctor Smith, or whatever. He can't just be the Doctor. That's a title not a name. I can't just go around calling myself the Scientist. Or the Professor. Or even the Plumber. People have names for a reason you know. Your father sounds a bit odd if you don't mind my saying so." The Master smiled while returning her useless drivel with some of his own. "So what kinds of things does he do to help people? He calls himself the Doctor, so I suppose he heals them right? Helps them with sickness?" With only a few blocks left to go, the Master only had to keep her talking for a bit longer.

Jenny shakes her head, laughing again, "No, he's just called the Doctor. I don't know how he got the name, either." She's never really had the chance to ask. Well, that's just one more thing for them to talk about, another addition to the list of many. "And he is a bit odd. Then again, I am, too. But it's a good odd, an interesting odd. Nothing's ever dull around him, that's for sure."

"...Helps them with sickness?"

"It doesn't quite work like that. It's more...about the situations people find themselves in. As my dad travels, has his adventures, he finds people that need help. Like on my world, there was a war. A war so easily solved... by a bubble of light, a terraforming device..." She shakes her head again, "Even in such violent worlds, he comes up with peaceful solutions. He uses his mind to fix them." Her voice gets a bit quieter as she smiles to himself, "He's brilliant."

"The situations they find themselves in? Sounds simply amazing. I absolutely must meet him. After all, who wouldn't want to meet somebody who had stopped an entire war? I can't even imagine. And with a terraforming device you say? Absolutely fascinating. Here, I tell you what. How about you call him. After all, he is probably wondering where you are. And if not, at least you could set up a meeting later on."

The Master stopped walking, and stood by with an innocent expression on his face. He made it clear that he was waiting on her to call, and wouldn't go any further until she did.

"He is absolutely fascinating," Jenny says with a grin. Then she pulls out her cellphone, "Both versions of him are, really." She cuts Tremas off before he can say anything, "I know, I know. It's all a bit confusing. I mentioned earlier that there was a half-human version of my dad walking about, too. He's the one that gave me this phone. Both of them are ridiculously overprotective. Like I wasn't born a soldier, like I'm made of porcelain or something."

Well, she did die and all. But it was only for a little bit!

Jenny hits the speed dial, "The half-human Doctor, that's who I'm calling." Then she mutters to herself, "Going to have to come up with another name for him, or no one's ever going to know who I'm talking about..."

He's got his brainy specs on, typing super-fast on the keyboard on the TARDIS console. It takes him a minute to realize his phone is ringing. Whipping it out of his pocket, he quickly answers it. "Jenny! Where are you? We were wondering where you'd wander off to..."

"Sorry, Dad, it's a new planet for me, and well, you know how it is," Jenny laughs lightly before pushing on, "You're going to be glad I did, though. I was walking through the streets when, suddenly, there it was---that feeling I get when you or the other Doctor are close by and..." She pauses, her smile small and her eyes beaming, "Dad, there's another Time Lord here. His name is Tremas Smarte, and he wants to meet you."

The Master rolls his eyes as the conversation begins, thankful that Jenny is not looking at him. He moves his lips in time with her while mocking her perky facial expressions. And then; right after she tells the Doctor who he is, he gives a sadistic grin and pulls the laser screwdriver from his pocket. "Goodnight Jenny," he retorts momentarily before zapping her with a neural suppression beam specially designed for time lords. It was a new addition to the screwdriver, and one that had been intended for the Doctor. Not that the Master wasn't perfectly happy when Jenny slumped to the ground. Indeed, he took half a second to examine his work before reaching for the phone that she had dropped.

With the utmost arrogance the Master speaks into the device. "Hello Doctor."

"Now now Doctor," the Master chides, "you almost sound like you are begging me. Surely you can do better than that. But to save you the trouble, no. Thanks for asking but I think I'll keep her. You see, she is a time lord. Amazing isn't it? I mean, after all, what is as valuable a commodity as time lords right now? You know, I can't think of a thing. Now Doctor, as I understand it you have other things to worry about right now. After all, surely I'm not the worst thing that has fallen through to wind up in this miserable pit. So, off you go then. Go solve your little problems. I'll hold onto dear Jenny here for you. She is quite lovely while sleeping."

His eyebrows crease, and anger flashes in his eyes. "You're right. No begging." He rests the phone between his shoulder and ear, and starts typing on the console again as he speaks, sending an alert to the main Hub about the situation, and starting a trace on Jenny's phone. "Let me be clear. The most important thing is getting Jenny back safe, which means I will hunt you down, and if she is hurt, I will make you pay. To be clearer still, don't for one second make the mistake of thinking I'm the same as my counterpart."

"Really?" The Master says, sarcasm evident in his tone. "I was unaware that you weren't the same as the other Doctor." He continues, though his voice has become serious. "I must admit it might spice up this little dance of ours though. A Doctor capable of what exactly? Violence certainly, but murder or hate? On the other hand, I find it hard to believe that you have gotten some useful traits with that human half. Mark my words though Doctor. You will regret coming after me rather than fixing your other problems. Eyes on the sky. The drums are coming."

He watches the screen as the TARDIS attempts to home in on Jenny's location. "I suppose that will be entirely up to you, Master. We'll learn what I'm capable of together." He continues to type, also pulling up the trace program they created to watch for the Master on the CCTV feeds. "Oh, I gained a few very valuable things by being part human." Multi-tasking and speed typing only being part of it, "So finding you doesn't have to mean that I'm not also working on my other 'problems' as you say. Do I take it you know something else of use, or are you just trying to distract me?"

"Yes." The Master says, sarcasm returning to his voice. "All my plans come down to me distracting you while you are trying to type. Is it working? Shall I sing a song now? I've got some catchy ones. That will distract you for sure!" The Master rolls his eyes while talking, wondering whether the Doctor is that stupid because he is half-human or whether he has always been that way.

The Master switches gears and speaks seriously one more time. "Remember what I said Doctor. Eyes on the sky. The drums are coming." And with that, the Master hurls the phone into the bed of a passing truck.
