Exactly. And, to tell the truth, Rhi wouldn't take anything back either. She'd loved him. She was happy when she was with him. Yes, she had her heart broken, but she still wouldn't trade what they'd had together. Not to mention, she still wanted to consider him a friend. She still loved him, just not in the same way. And it would take a while to build that level of trust again. But...she didn't want to give him up completely. Honestly, she'd have kicked his ass if he hadn't made things right with him and Leney and kept it that way. Wasn't she the one, even after she found out he'd cheated on her, telling him to stay in Chicago and stick things out? That Leney and Troy couldn't possibly last forever? She knew they were meant to be together. Honestly, she'd always knew it deep down. It was one of those inevitable things. Rhi was just very talented at deluding herself into believing she still had a chance.
Really? He should have thought it through more? Yeah. Just maybe. Especially when she'd already made it perfectly clear that she still wanted to be his friend. But from her perspective, it seemed like he didn't want her around. So what else was she supposed to do.
She was supposed to walk away. He'd gone out and seen other people but she wasn't on that list. Fucking hell, she'd been pissed enough when he was spending all his time with Leney instead of being with his friends. Now Leney was gone and she still wasn't good enough to be graced with Nathaniel Bradshaw's presence. Apparently she was exactly what she thought she was: his consolation prize. She was around because he thought he couldn't have Leney. She was a failsafe that was now useless because he got what he wanted.
She rounded on him, infuriated. "And whose fault is that, Nathaniel? It's not like I haven't told you on more than one occasion that I still wanted to be friends. I've tried. I've made the effort. You're the one who's doing nothing. I'm the one that had my heart broken and I'm the one trying to pick up the pieces of our friendship." She rolled her eyes and brushed her hair out of her eyes. "It's hard to be friends with someone who does nothing but push you away.
