But that’s how the world works, doesn’t it? Sometimes things worked out and sometimes they didn’t. Nate had made some very bad mistakes to get to a place where things were working out but truth be told, he wouldn’t take any of it back. If he could erase hurting Rhi that badly he would but mistakes were just that, mistakes, things that couldn’t be helped after they were made. He wasn’t about to sit around and think about that one over and over while he had it good in the here and now. He was the silent broody type but that wasn’t something he did. It’d be nothing more than another blow to Rhi anyway. Nate finally getting what he wanted and then not enjoying it? Just as stupid.
Nate really was doing the complete opposite of what he should be doing in a situation like this but for the life of him he couldn’t figure out what he was doing wrong. Should he be forcing his company on her? Because that’s definitely what he felt like he’d be doing if he tried to initiate anything. … Wait. Shit. He probably should have thought that through more. Taking the first step probably should be in his yard, huh?
There was just one small little problem. Nate could also be extremely stubborn and admitting that he was wrong was not something he was good at. At all.
“Of course I think so,” he replied resisting the urge to shrug it off, obviously he spent far too much time around people with huge egos. With the next comment he raised his brows slightly. What the hell? This is what he meant! He was going to slip up because he always did and all it was going to do was upset her or piss her off. What good was that going to do either of them?
… And then she was walking away. Fuck no. He’d only just realised he should be trying something different and she was just going to leave? “Rhi,” taking a step out of his doorway he looked in her direction, hoping for her to turn around. “I didn’t mean it like that. You can’t just walk away when I haven’t seen you in ages.” And yet again, foot in mouth. Maybe one of these days he'll get it right.
