Asshole thing or not, it was true. He had done a good thing for her. She was meant for different things. Not necessarily better, but different. And he would have held her back. She wanted to be Madame President one day and...well, if she'd been the one, would he really want her that busy all the time? Would he really want to be the First Husband? She sincerely doubted it. He needed someone like Leney. Someone who he knew would always put him first, even if she was hundreds of miles away. Rhi couldn't promise that. Or if she did, she'd be giving up her dreams. And, to be quite honest, they were far too much alike. There relationship would have gone stagnant in a few years. They both needed people that balanced them out, not people that encouraged them to be more withdrawn and spiteful.
Rhi never was one for flings. She did have one or two of them while she was forcing herself to get over Nate, but she was a monogamist at heart. And dear God it pissed her off that Leney had done a hell a lot of sleeping around (and apparently with taken men) and RHI was the one who got the reputation of being a whore. Just...UGH. But...yeah, that's another thing entirely.
She wanted to believe that. She really did. She wanted to believe that, even after all this, they could still be friends. But it was hard to do that if he wouldn't see her or talk to her. She didn't want to disappear. She'd been holding on for dear life and he just kept pushing her away. She couldn't wait forever for him to wise up and realize that he was going to lose her. She wouldn't wait. If he wasn't willing to put forth some effort, he wasn't worth it.
"So glad you think so," she said with a fake smile. If everyone else was so determined to feel that way, she was perfectly happy to pretend she felt that way as well. Kept people from talking to her about things he did not want to talk about. ...yeah. He wasn't exactly the brightest crayon in the box was he? If that wasn't like a knife in her chest, she didn't know what was. "...you really know how to make a girl feel special and wanted, don't you?" She just looked at him for a moment, then shook her head and rolled her eyes. "Whatever, Nate."
