Well, shit. The computers were acting up, and Hunter had a shitload left to do that day. Somehow, for reasons he didn't know, he had lost all of his work he had done that day, as well as his entire floor. Everyone was in a tissy. And great. Denim was expecting him to come home in an hour, and he JUST now found out about all this. He always hated having to cancel things because of work with her. He knew the job had come between them so many times in the past. Oh well. Time to face the music and see what happened. He picked up his office phone and dialed her cell out of line two, hoping she would pick up and hadn't gotten tied up in things at the shop or with just getting ready to go out with him.
Denim was currently at her apartment, having left the shop frustrated with herself because she couldn't get the design in her head to transfer onto the paper. It hadn't been a great day, the phone calls she made falling flat for the most part, and the first thing she'd gotten back from being sent out to be mass produced had been done in the wrong fabric and needed to be sent back. She was hoping that spending tonight with Hunter would help her get back on track, it usually did. Stepping out of the shower and wrapping a towel around her she started to comb her hair when her cell phone started going off, Hunters ring tone bringing a smile to her face. "You've reached the Goddess of you're every desire, so make it a good one." She couldn't help it when it was him.
He couldn't help but smile when she answered the phone in such a way. "Hey, My Goddess." And then after that, knowing what was going to have to come next, his chipperness faded. "I've got some bad news, Babe." He put his forehead in his hand, elbow leaning against his desk. This one going to be a long night.
The smile that was on her face fell some but she hadn't exactly given up hope just yet, "I'm going to have to spend even more time with you then I thought?" Turning around in the bathroom she leaned back against the counter, opening the bathroom door when she heard the pawing at it. Monkey walked inside the room and Denim picked her up, scratching behind her ears.
Hunter laughed into the phone just a little bit. "I wish that was it." He sighed very heavily, the laughter not lasting as long as he wished. "There's been mix up in the computer system, and everyone on my floor lost everything they were working on. We've lost a whole days work somehow." He hoped she wasn't going to make him say 'I have to cancel for tonight.'
No. Why did she always have to give up her time with him because of the stupid office? It wasn't fair. So, she wasn't going to believe it. "Please tell me this is you inviting me to your office instead of going out?..." There was hopefulness in her voice even though she knew that wasn't going to happen if he'd lost an entire days work.
Hunter wished he could have her come over to the office, and any other day she would be more than welcome, but he knew good and well that he really wouldn't be going anywhere today with his work, should she come. "I... really wish that was the case. But I'm afraid it's just not going to work out tonight, Babe. I'm sorry. Surely we can reschedule. I'm not happy about this at all."
"Monkey..." Her voice wasn't the happiest of tones as she set the cat down and walked from the bathroom to the bedroom. Denim knew that it wasn't his fault the computers crashed. And it wasn't his fault that he was good at his job. "Of course we can reschedule..." They were great at rescheduling things. "I just really wanted to see you tonight is all." Wanted to, needed too. They were the same thing.
When she mentioned him using the words 'reschedule' in regards to her, he couldn't help but cringe. That was a bad way to put it. Great. "I meant... just move it. And you can still see me tonight. It's just going to be ... a little later than usual." He wanted to see her too, but dammit. Fucking work.
Plopping down on the edge of the bed she nodded her head, not that he could see that too begin with. "Baby, you have an entire days work to redo, it's going to be more than a little later." She managed a soft chuckle at him having the optimism there, "But better later than never." Denim was playing with the hem of her towel, "I don't care when you get of work you better walk through my door after."
Hunter grinned, glad she was taking this well. Well considering. He'd be annoyed with him too. "You'll be the first place I go." He paused. "Well, that's a lie, because I'm starved now. I'll be famished then, so I may stop to get fast food or something. You want me to pick some up on the way, or just call you before I leave to make sure?" Small peace offering, but hey.
"Call me when you leave." She might be asleep on the couch with the dog, and him calling her would gve her time to not look so groggy when he got there. Or she might not even be hungry and she didn't want to have him waste money on food that she wasn't going to be eating. "Just promise me that this isn't going to happen on our next date?" And as far as she knew the next date she knew of, at least it better be a date on that night, was on Valentines Day. Their anniversary. Of one year. Just the thought made her grin.
"I swear on my life, not gonna happen next time. It'll be a date sooner than you think." He smiled. Oh, there was going to be so much more going on that night for them, she'd be pleasantly surprised. At least he hoped she would be. "I'll call you when I leave. You'll be seeing me." he would have winked if he hadn't been simply talking to her on the phone. "I should get back to this, Sweetheart, so I can get there sooner. I love you."
Denim could hear the smile in his voice, having become ad expert at that kind of thing and grinned too. His smile was even contagious over the phone. "I promise you that I'll fill that bet if it's not." She warned him, falling over onto her side and letting out a deep breath, not wanting to hang up the phone but knowing that she had to. "I love you too. Now get back to work." Laughing softly, she pulled the phone from her ear and closed it, looking around the room to think of what to do until he got there.
