Ben had seriously hoped that they could lay there in silence until they drifted off to sleep. He didn't have any desire to fight with her and, honestly, he wasn't sure they wouldn't do just that as soon as they started talking.
"I was held up," he half-way lied.
In all actuality, he hadn't been held up by anything other than his own thoughts but he didn't care to go into an explanation about that. He hadn't been sure if he was going to come and admitting to that would only cause an argument.
