Closed courtyard- Exterior
The courtyard is enclosed on three sides by buildings and the fourth side by a fence. The fence is a none permanent structure but is currently solid and unbroken.
The marks of previous construction work lie about but most of it has been cannibalised to build extra defences.

DP nudged the door open to the courtyard slowly, carefully, watching Snap as he did so. Snap's nose was pressed against the crack of the opening door, his ears and tail erect and alert and he snuffled, sneezed, and snuffled again. After a moment, he shoved at the door with his nose, then looked up at his master and 'ahwuf'ed softly before bumping impatiently at the door once more.

DP smiled and opened the door up further to let his dog out into the courtyard, already beginning to relax again. Carefully, he scanned the walls and roofs around the courtyard, then eased out to watch Snap, leaning against the wall by the door, one hand on the inside doorknob to keep from getting closed out.

Snap raced around the yard, nose to the ground, sniffing busily.

India followed a moment later, apparently paying more attention to the dog than the man with him.
"It's a decent day, as the days go with things as they are." She said softly. "Whatever Kara said, there's a deep likelihood that it was bollocks. All I'm gonna say."

He stiffened. "Nothing was said." He didn't look at her, eyes fixed on the dog, as if by ignoring her, she wasn't there.

DP tensed and eased away from her, and from the door. His voice was tight as he responded, "No one said anything. Nothing happened."

"She had a newcomer alone in a room and said nothing...and she was alive, able to speak and everything?" India joked "I don't need to know, just don't take it to heart."

DP went into full retreat, hugging himself and pulling even further away from the door though he kept to the shade of the wall almost instinctively. "Nothing happened." His voice went high and tense, agitated and almost young sounding. "No one said anything, nothing happened," he insisted. "I wasn't rude, I didn't do anything, why won't you leave me alone?"

At the distressed tone of his master's voice, Snap looked up and came back, trotting briskly up to put himself firmly between the two humans. His hackles came up as he looked at India, tail and ears erect as he considered her with a soft, questioning growl.

Snap watched them, head swiveling back and forth almost comically. Finally, he sat down and just stared at DP, who stared back.

After a moment or two, DP nodded, a little hesitantly. "I...didn't mean to cause trouble."

Now his temper snapped and he turned on her. "NOTHING HAPPENED! Stop saying it did!" He hesitated, then spun away, walking quickly to the far side of the courtyard, pacing back and forth there, as if trying to figure out how to scale the wall. Snap followed closely at his heels, pacing the few steps in each direction and back. "Stop it, stop it, stop it! Nothing happened. NOTHING." DP hugged himself and shook his head, forcing the denial into place as he paced.

Alex cautiously opened the door to the courtyard, leaning his left shoulder slightly on the door frame and looking out at the other two. His glasses were propped on top of his head and the small screwdriver he'd been using was tucked behind his ear.

"Umm...generally I find that inside is a lot safer than outside...but maybe that's just me." He murmured, wary eyes flicking between the two of them, unconsciously taking in the scene and their body language.

DP flinched at the sudden introduction of another to the situation, then, as his eyes fell on the other man, a wealth of tension dropped away and he automatically shifted sideways, easing closer to Alex, avoiding India's eyes as he shifted, his shoulder brushing against the wall as he moved.

Alex caught the movement and his eyes flicked over to look at DP, the wariness still present upon his face but his brow furrowed slightly at the way the other man practically hugged the wall to avoid India but didn't comment.

"Right, don't all rush to say anything first," he muttered, letting out a sigh. "Seriously, shouldn't be outside...the infected hunt by smell and can sense changes in emotion...wind's picking up, it'll carry scents further." He added in an almost matter-of-fact tone.

"And you.." He addressed India directly. "Shouldn't even be moving. You have a bloody infection...you should be lying down somewhere."

Alex watched her leave before sagging against the wall slightly, absently rubbing at his right arm. His eyes flicked over to look at DP again, before thrusting his hands into his coat pockets and looked down at his feet.

DP kept his eyes averted as India left, only nudging further into the corner to let her pass. Snap followed her to the door, nose bumping her calves until she'd gone through the jamb, then he turned and planted himself in front of Alex, head cocked curiously and one paw raised as if he'd been caught in mid-thought.

DP shuffled, shifted and edged toward the door.

Alex raised his head enough to look at Snap, quirking an eyebrow at the dog. "I hope you know you're the luckiest one out of everyone here." He murmured, addressing the dog as one would talk to another person. "No primate or specifically hominoid DNA in you is there? Lucky you." He let out a small sigh. "Bloody lucky"

His eyes flicked briefly to DP as he moved but returned his attention to Snap.

The dog's head tipped in the other direction as the man spoke, his ears pricking even further. The raised foot came down and the tail wagged, once, as a high-pitched questioning growl rumbled out of his throat.

DP hesitated, then glanced at the man who was blocking his exit. He looked at Snap, then at the door, then glanced at Alex again. After a moment, very quietly, he murmured, "...can I get by?"

Alex shrugged, gritting his teeth as the action pulled at the stitches in his arm and moved out the way. "If you want...not stopping you." He muttered. "Although...might be worth waiting a bit...to calm down?" He shrugged again, being careful to only do so with one shoulder this time. "Not that it's any of my business."

DP hesitated another moment, then, when Alex didn't press, he began to relax, tension slowly leaving the set of his shoulders. After a breath, he turned and leaned against the wall next to the other man, his eyes on Snap as the dog echoed the easing of tension by stepping forward and beginning to sniff at Alex's shoes with interest.

DP let the dog sniff for a few moments, then pushed off the wall again, saying, softly, "...you were right. We shouldn't be out here, even if it is a protected courtyard."

Alex stiffened slightly as DP leant against the wall, eyeing him out the corner of his eye, but when the other man didn't move he went back to his normal posture. Brown eyes flicked back down to the dog as he began to sniff his shoes, just watching him.

Alex gave the tiniest of starts as DP moved again before shrugging one shoulder at the comment. "I'm always bloody right." He muttered and then gave a small snort. "Protected...glass on top of walls...that's not protection.."

DP shook his head. "No, its not." He hugged himself again, rubbing his arms slightly. Softly, as if to himself, he added, "...no where is safe anymore." He glanced at Alex, nodded once. "...your arm all right?" He pinked slightly, looking away at the sharp glance. "...you're favoring it. And I think you're right handed. Just thought I'd ask if you needed an extra pair of hands."

Snap gave up sniffing Alex's shoes, moved up to his knees, and then wandered off again to check the courtyard perimeter once more, his manner relaxed and unalarmed.
