Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Janell and Lee
What: Meeting. Not dying. Getting to base.

Two days ago Janell had heard the radio message. She was looking through abandoned cars for well anything useful. Two days ago she was with a group of people. Two days ago, those people were all killed. She was on her way back to the group to tell them what she heard from that car radio but before she could get two feet there were gun shots and screaming. If she hadn’t of ran she would have been dead too.

Too afraid to stop to find another working radio she kept onto her destination running on hope that those people were still alive and she wasn’t wandering on to her death. Being alone made it easier to move around but it was terrifying. Janell was deathly afraid of the dark and to add these flesh eating bastards, well, she didn’t sleep. No sleep for two whole days. She wasn’t sure if she was even going in the right direction anymore. Paranoid, afraid, alone. She didn’t believe in God but she prayed to anyone and anything that was out there to give her just one sane live person.

Lee listened to the broadcast, over the handheld army radio he carried, again to check he was correct in the direction he was heading. It had been a few days since his dad and the remaining soldiers had been killed, Lee hadn't stopped running until he was almost dead on his feet and had wandered aimlessly for a bit before he'd picked up the broadcast over the radio.

Approaching a street with several abandoned cars in it, Lee raised the rifle he carried. He was taking any chances. He stepped lightly, bright blue eyes scanning the area and taking every little detail he could. Movement from the corner of his eye caught his attention and he swung the weapon round to point in the general direction.

"Hello..?" He queried just loud enough to earn anyone in that area's attention, preparing himself to shoot if he needed to.

She thought she had gone insane when she heard the hello. Her eyes shifted to the man and then focused on the wonderful firearm pointed in her direction. “Don’t shoot.” Was all she could say. She wanted to be polite and return the hello but there wasn’t much time for manners in this certain situation. Well, she added. “Please.”

Lee's eyes narrowed slightly but he lowered the weapon slightly, still keeping it ready in case he needed it. "You're not infected?" It was more of a statement than a question.

“No.” she said meekly. “Aside from being in desperate need of a shower, I’m clean.” She wanted to run to him and hug him just because he was another person but that didn’t sound like a smart idea. The man had a guy, sudden movements were always bad. So, she raised her left hand and waved slightly by wiggling her fingers.

"You're not the only one in need of a shower." He replied with a wry grin, lowering the weapon further; after another quick scan around the area. "You on your own?" He asked, edging closer to her.

“All by myself.” When he took a bit of a step forward so did she. “At least you have a that sweet man smell.” She gave him a smile. “Man stink is good.”

Lee chuckled softly at her comment. "Well, that's good to know at least." He held out his hand to her, although his blue eyes were constantly scanning the area, alert to any signs of danger. "Name's Lee, Lee Dawson."

Oh no, this handshake wouldn’t do. “Janell Acklin,” she said as she bypassed the hand and pulled him close into a hug. She knew most people didn’t like hugs and especially now when it was life or death. But she needed it.

Lee's eyebrows shot up as she pulled him into a hug but merely let her, figuring she needed it. He extracted himself from the hug and quirked a small smile at her. "Well, that's the best welcome I've had in a while," he quipped wryly, before quickly reverting to a serious expression. "We need to move. It's not good to stay in one place for too long. There's a broadcast...you heard it?" He asked, unclipping the army radio from his belt and gesturing with it.

For just a split second she forgot about the infected. All she needed was one person, any one person and that would cheer her up. “Right,” she said quickly. “Is it still going?” she started to shuffle a bit in the direction she thought it was in. She eyed his radio not like she was going to take it but she was just looking at it. “Are they still alive Lee?” Janell liked to use names. People always thought it was odd of her but she thought it was particularly necessary in times like these. Remind people that there are still other people out there that know who they are and that they aren’t really alone. Of course she was sure everyone didn’t think that way but it helped her too.

Lee nodded, hitting a button on the radio and letting the message pay briefly, the volume set to its minimum - probably to save battery or so as not to be heard; or both. "The dates still match real time so there's at least one person alive there." He held out the radio for her to take. "A good will gesture. I'll let you hang onto the radio to prove I won't just abandon you if we get attacked," he explained.

"We're not too far off from the place. Unfortunately, it'll be dark before we reach it. Best idea would be to either hole up somewhere nearby or carry on as far as we can go and then hole up somewhere there." Lee added, starting to walk off in the general direction. "I have a spare gun, a revolver, you might need it." He added. Lee was careful to use 'we' a lot, he may have issues with trusting people but he was also a good judge of character - not to mention, they were the only two survivors in the immediate vicinity.

The Infected noticed something...uninfected somethings, and began to move as a pack, surprisingly swift and stealthy, closing in and attempting to separate the two that they saw, dragging the young man away from the woman, and closing in on the unarmed girl, closing her in.

Lee caught the movement out the corner of his eye and swore under his breath at not noticing sooner - too distracted by talking to another survivor and not keeping watchful...god, he could've kicked himself.

He struggled as the infected pulled him away from Janell; twisting and turning out of their grip and kicking one away from him while hitting another in the face with the butt of the rifle and shooting the first one right between the eyes, as he pulled the revolver from his waistband.

There weren't that many, he figured he could get them all relatively easily; as long as more didn't turn up; unfortunately...Janell was unarmed, and he'd seen this pack play before when they'd attacked the group of soldiers.

The Infected started on the girl, tearing at her, she wasn't dead yet, but she might as well be. They ripped at her, each seemingly vying to tear out her throat.

Lee shot the final infected that was by him and turned as Janell's screams reached his ears. He cringed and swore loudly as the remaining infected tore into her. "I really fucking hate the infected." He said, levelling both guns and unloading several bullets into the back of the infected's heads.

The Infected fell back, leaving the twitching, just alive body of the girl behind them.

Lee's expression became sombre. "Sorry." He said in a flat tone, before his expression reverted to an impassive mask before levelling the revolver and firing a single bullet right between her eyes.
