Leigh looked up at the new panel that had been fitted a few months earlier and never been painted. Well, everyone was too busy keeping the ship running to worry about the homely factor. They’d worry about that when they picked up all of their things from storage.
So she’d been given a list of random little jobs that could do with doing with the instructions of, ‘heck, if it keeps you out of the way and makes you happy, go, do whatever.’ She’d taken that to mean that the tasks were actually needing to be done, but the Captain just didn’t want to make it seem like she was forcing Leigh to work. Her naivety helped her at times. So she had borrowed a uniform and slipped that on and took the lid off of the paint can and sighed. What was the fascination of keeping the insides of ships walls a horrible pale grey colour? Couldn’t they be brighter and happy? Less claustrophobic and depressing? At least it wasn’t a dull grey. She sighed and fumbled about trying to attach the spray can and the paint together and experiencing some difficulty.
