land a-hoy...well...eventually
Who: Zip, Farah and Open
What: Zip’s up on the bridge fixing things up and spots something interesting
Where: Bridge
When: 11:09
Warnings: none
Summary: …
Zip sat cross legged at the bridge. He was fixing the speaker next to the second pilots seat. Technically it should be Brody’s seat but Brody was the first pilot in theory. Farah had just never gotten around to changing his title. In truth she liked to bug him with it. Replacing the cover over the speaker he sat back and checked it was working. It seemed fine to him. He heard a beeping coming from behind the cockpit and stood up to investigate. It was hotter than usual today up here. He hoped that the environmental controls weren’t threatening to break. He was wearing his bright blue vest and his brown combat trousers. His implants very much visible and his metal arm in clear view. Not everyone of the survivors had seen him yet. But most didn’t seem phased which he liked. They also hadn’t asked questions which he preferred even more. As far as people knew, he was Farah’s brother. That was that. He bent at the waist to lean on the counter and raised an eyebrow. “Now this could be interesting.” He pulled the chair towards him and sat down opening up the alert message the ship had given him. “Now…what have we…?” He asked himself and raised an eyebrow. “Oh, now this was interesting! Thanks old girl!” He grinned patting the control panel affectionately. He pushed off from the counter and rolled over towards the intercom and punched in the number for Farah’s personal communicator. “Farah, I think we’re going to end up passing by a planet.” He said waiting for her to respond.
“A planet!?” She asked curiously. “Hrmm…how come we didn’t spot it coming? What’s the orbit?”
“It’s pretty wide, I can’t tell yet if it’s going to be hospitable either. Or if it’s even tagged. Think we should investigate when we get closer?”
“How long have we got to decide?” She asked,
“One minute.” He looked at the distance and smirked, “We’ve got like…two months.” He chuckled.
“Ah well then.” She shrugged. “Right, y’know what to do then. Get Rei up there too to see about finding out if it’s mapped and if it’s owned. If not we’ll get the coordinates marked down and see about auctioning them. If there’s anything important of course. We just got the one planet?”
“Yeah, for now. We may get lucky and they could be in the right locations in their orbits to pass close to us.” He added, “Oh and there’s a comet about three weeks away, we’ll pass it. I’ve started scanning to see if the ice is contaminated. If not it could really relieve the water problem.” He added.
“It’s all good Zip.” She replied from her location in the tech room. “Right then hun, I best get back to the files. Anything else of interest?”
“No. Is there ever?” He laughed.
“Okay then love. I’m off. See ya later.” She replied.
Zip took his finger off of the intercom and slid back over to the computer panel and started to narrow down the scan to the planet up ahead. It could be a rock waste land with no point to take the buggy down to it. Though Brody may want to anyway to show off his piloting skills. He looked up and grinned as he spotted someone stood in the doorway. “How long you been there?” He asked pleasantly to turn and see who it was.
