Thread: Kurt the Copycat
Who: Kurt and Bethan
When: Monday, July 9, evening
Where: New York alleyways
What: Kurt goes looking for Finn and finds someone else!
Kurt perfected his latest design with a few more sketched lines. He'd just tilted his head to make sure the design was just the way he wanted it when his phone rang. Jutting out his lower jaw in irritation, Kurt picked up his phone and saw that the call was from an unknown number. "What the...?" He answered the call and said, "Hello?"
"Kurt Hummel?
"This is."
"Bill Jenkins, here. I'm the warden at Truman Memorial Penitentiary. I'm cal-"
"What happened to Finn?" Kurt interrupted the warden, his heart beating so loud he was sure it could be heard on the other end of the line. "Is he dead? Did that virus get him? I've heard stories about the atrocious sanitation that you peop-"
"He's not dead," Bill Jenkins assured Kurt. "He's not sick. He- Well, he escaped."
"He escaped?" Kurt asked with a scoff. "Why would he...? I mean, he agreed to stay put for the duration of his sentence."
Jenkins sighed. "Lately he's been talking a lot about resuming his previous activities."
"You mean hero work," Kurt nodded, taking a deep breath to calm his nerves. "He can't. Last time he tried, that woman died."
"I'm fully aware of Mr. Hudson's history. That's why I called. If you see your brother, please contact the authorities."
Kurt rolled his eyes, "Yeah, because that's going to end well."
After saying their goodbyes, Kurt pushed away his work and pulled out a yellow legal pad to start brainstorming ways to find Finn. He wasn't going to call any time soon, so Kurt came to the conclusion that he was going to have to go looking. Actually out on the street looking.
But where would Finn go?
If he wanted to start being a superhero again, then he would go where superheroes were needed. He would go places where crime was bound to happen. Which (ew) meant that Kurt would have to go places where crime was bound to happen. Like dark alleys and seedy bars and just ugh! Sighing, Kurt decided a little discomfort on his part was better than someone else getting killed because Finn thought he was helping.
Now, to decide on an outfit. Something that said, "I'm not here to start trouble, but I can take care of myself so don't even try." Something more, to borrow a phrase, butch than his normal style. Something that would explain what he was doing without making him look like a criminal. Something like what a hero would wear. The idea was very To Catch a Thief, but Kurt liked it.
Kurt spent an hour researching what the few heroes who had popped up after Lima wore when they did their crime-fighting work. Some of them were ridiculous and obviously too much work for a short stint out trying to find his brother.
And then Kurt ran across an article about "The Bandit." Apparently he had a longer history of fighting crime than most, his costume, if you could call it that, was easy to duplicate. All Kurt would need was a black motorcycle helmet with a mirrored visor and he pretty much had everything else in his wardrobe already. Plus, there were already incidents of others, super powered and not, imitating The Bandit.
This plan would totally work.
The first night Kurt went out, he didn't find Finn, but he did find a mugging in progress. He found an actual crime being committed and he didn't even think before stopping it. He tied up the mugger with his own horrible flannel shirt and told the victim to call the police before high-tailing it out of there, using his power to help lift him up the side of a building and to the roof, like the Bandit was known for.
The next morning in the paper, The Bandit's work - his work - was mentioned and Kurt smiled the whole morning.
That night he went out again. Only this time when he followed the shouts that usually meant a crime was in progress, he saw apart from the commotion another dark figure wearing a motorcycle helmet. "Oh, crap!"
