Thread: The 76th Annual Tony Awards
Who: Rachel, Jaime, OPEN (post reactions!)
When: 6/24, evening
Where: Radio City Music Hall
What: The Tony Awards do not go quite as Rachel plans.
Rachel dropped her wide, fake smile as the camera pulled away from her and Aaron Tveit announced the nominees for Set Design. It was one of the non-televised awards, which meant that she had a temporary break from the elated facade that she had all but forced herself to wear anytime the cameras were on and active.
Truth be told, the day had been awful. The twins had been especially difficult today, not wanting to stay home when there was such a big party going on that they were going to miss (Luka, for some reason, loved wearing tuxedos). It was mildly frustrating, but would had been fine if Jaime hadn't just been so sick. He'd been laying on the couch all morning, attempting to feel well enough to go, and still looked decidedly green. She wasn't feeling too great herself, but she didn't have a choice - she had to be there.
She'd tried to get him to stay home - she doubted he'd get anything from it, anyway - but he'd refused. He wasn't coughing or sneezing, just feeling bad, and to him, that was reason enough to go. She appreciated that he wanted to be there with her, but she just wanted him to feel better, and she sincerely doubted anything about the upcoming night was going to be relaxing.
She sighed, clapping as the winner was announced and attempting to look like she was paying attention. She had to be backstage in twenty minutes, and was having a significant amount of trouble focusing on the performance. Usually she'd be visualizing the stage and what she was about to do, but right now, she was focused on trying to keep her power under control.
Did she mention that she'd been freezing and rewinding time all evening? She wasn't sure how far her abilities reached, but she sincerely doubted that it was in the entirety of the Tonys' viewing area. Someone must have thought their local broadcast station was really dropping the ball.
The music restarted then, indicating that the commercial was over and they were all once again live. This was supposed to be a major step in her career, and now it just seemed like an obstacle to overcome. If she could just get through this night, she'd be grateful.
