Narrative: Sam and the Man
Who: Sam, the Mysterious Man, Boobie Nurse (NPCs)
What: Sam's experience at the facility
When: Feb. 29th, afternoonish
Where: SECRET BASE
Sam had awoken from a drug-hazed sleep to find himself back in a hospital gown, hooked up to a heart-rate monitor. He tried lifting his head but it felt too heavy, like Thor's mighty hammer was resting on his forehead. As he stirred, the nurse Puck so affectionately called Jugs approached him, pressing a call button on the side of his bed and helped him raise himself into a sitting position, ignoring his mumblings of "meowmeow".
Not shortly after, the mysterious man- who had yet to introduce himself properly- entered the room, flipping through a folder.
"It looks like you're going home, Sam. As soon as the anesthesia wears off, we'll have you on your way back to your family. I'm afraid there isn't much we can do for you at this point but there's no reason to keep you here any longer," He explained, sifting through the papers with a frown, "We've implanted a small chip into the back of your head. It'll monitor your brain waves and help suppress any unnatural activity from within."
"Wait, what?" Sam shifted, feeling the drug wear off as he absorbed the information. His hand shot out and felt around his scalp, finding the bandaged spot at the back of his head.
"It's for your own good and for the safety of those around you. This way, you are free to re-enter society without being a danger to others. As for your old powers, we're still researching. We have a lead but it'll take us some time to track it down."
Doing his best to keep up, Sam gathered that he was free and that they still didn't know what had caused the power swap. Okay, he could deal with that. It's not like he particularly wanted his powers back any time soon. He wouldn't miss not being able to touch other people, that was for sure. Even being around his parents had become difficult; he knew his Mom was afraid he was pulling away from them by the jokes she'd make about him getting too old to hug her.
"If you have any questions... Well, we probably wouldn't be able to answer them anyway," The Man deadpanned before shutting his folder and turning to leave, a smirk sneaking it's way onto his face. Sam stared, bewildered. Was that a joke?
As soon as he was gone, Sam was put back into his regular clothes- the clothes he had been kidnapped in- and ushered into a van with blackened windows with a bag tossed over his head, much like they had done with Puck. He was dropped off a block from his apartment complex with the odd instructions to go along with whatever his parents said about his disappearance. Their memories had been wiped in the incident leading to his kidnapping, so a new set of memories and an alibi had been planted in their heads, probably by the psychic they had back at the facility.
Sam dug out his keys and entered the apartment, calling out to his parents and siblings. At the sound of his voice Stevie and Stacey came barreling down the hallway, clinging to his legs.
"Sammy!" Stacey cried, wrapping her arms around him as he crouched to her level, pulling them both into a hug.
"Hey Squirt, how are you feeling?" When Sam had last left them, Stacey had been bandaged and banged up from the storm. Nothing too life threatening, just a concussion, but Sam had worried about her while he'd been gone.
Mary Evans entered the hall from the kitchen, wiping her hands on a dishtowel, a surprised look on her face, "Sam! You're back sooner than I expected. Did you have a good time at pizza delivery training?"
"Uh," Sam stood, releasing the little squirts and made his way over to his Mom, pulling her into a tight hug, "Yeah, Mom, it was great. I missed you." Couldn't they have come up with a better excuse for his absence? Like, he was off fighting evil ninjas and saving princesses? That would have been way cooler.
Startled, she hugged him back gently, pleased at his unexpected show of affection, "You haven't been gone that long," she pulled back, brushing his hair back from his forehead.
"Yeah," he smiled, leaning in to place a kiss on her cheek, "But it's good to be home."
