Not for the first time since he'd moved back to the area, or really, today for that matter, Matt felt like he was a little out of his depth here. Honestly, the closest he'd gotten to knowing plants could talk was watching Pocahontas with his nephew, and right now he was totally picturing Kenna talking to Grandmother Willow. So that was a thing that happened. Matthew nodded his head and tried to get a better idea in his head about how all of this worked and in truth, it didn't make a lot of sense to him. At least he was trying? He figured maybe it would come to him in time once he had more exposure to these things.
At the mention of growing up in the middle of the mountains Matthew tilted his head a little bit, curious. While he was a city boy through and through, the idea of living in the mountains had interested him, even if it was just on a vacation of sorts. He liked to hike and spend time outside, so to him that actually sounded kind of cool. "Yeah, which ones?" he asked clearly interested in where she grew up. After all, mountains did seem like a good place for...trees...to live. "Besides, mountains are excellent places to wait out the end of the world." he joked a little bit, though he did have to wonder if there was any truth to that.
If Matt knew that Nuno had exposed her to language that she really hadn't known before, he would have been shocked and had a further urge to keep this person safe. Or maybe he was just so used to it, and didn't honestly mind it because at times, he was just as bad. Maybe not as bad, but as close as someone could get to matching his best friend's vocabulary. "Marines. He's Navy, but I try not to hold it against him." a little bit of a cheeky grin came onto his face. "I moved to A.C. a few years ago, and he more or less followed when he got out. We're both working for the Police Department there." he explained, maybe a little more than he meant to, but the woman before him seemed to have an ability few had...get him to relax and actually say words.
