Matt didn't consider himself someone who was more on the pessimistic side of life. Nor did he really consider himself on the optimist side either. He had his moments with both, but when it came to pattern of behavior, Matt tended to be a little more neutral with his outlook on life. Things could be good. Things could be bad. Things just happened that were gray. When he met people for the first time he tried hard not to give into his first impression of them. If he did, well, he and Holmes wouldn't be as good of friends as they are now as Matt almost kicked his teeth in the first time. So, he was used to not really letting anything settle in his mind within the first five minutes. However, that being said his gut was telling him right now that the person standing before him was a pure ray of sunshine. Matt could find no other explanation. Other than perhaps she was a conwoman and he should be aware of were his wallet was at all times. And if she was, she was doing a damn good job of it right now.
However, he'd been around enough people all over the world to realize that it probably wans't true and this person standing before him was just...incredibly kind. Someone who would actually walk up to a complete stranger, cheerful, and genuinely wanting to help out. Matt's instinct was to hide her away from all of the bad things in the world. It was the same feeling he got when he was around Louis, and even though he knew that it wasn't something he could actually do, it was still there. That being said, it wasn't that he thought she was a child by any means, clearly, she was some sort of adult, or he assumed she was. If she was working and moved here, and yeah. But then she could be emancipated. Or then again, as he was finding out, for all he knew she could be 600 years old. His brain hurt a little from over thinking this, but he was moving past that.
Matt listened to her explain a little bit and nodded, letting his guard down just a little bit, enough to let his grin spread past the corners of his mouth just a little bit more. Matt wasn't a full on smile guy, unless he was in the right company or depending on what he was doing, but, he figured this was a better move than not at the moment. "Well, you've got two years on me then." he said with a little bit of amusement in his voice. "Florist, huh? Like normal flowers or like spooky flowers?" he asked honestly, sounding curious. He was still trying to get a beat on all of this, making slow progress, but still trying to figure out what was magical and what wasn't. Honestly, it felt some days like he walked into a fairy tale world. "Honestly, I was just trying to get a better beat on things. I grew up in the city, so I figured if I could get that down, I could get this down." he shrugged slightly and then he heard his stomach make a bit of a noise. "And any place to get good snacks would be appreciated." he added.
