Kenna was in the middle of her snack buying spree when she heard something tell her to turn around. Well, not something. It was the bamboo she was standing next to in the shop. When she did, the girl caught the sight of someone who looked a bit out of his element. He had that lost look people got when they were trying to figure out what to do with themselves. And he was also staring into the middle distance. That space that sat between nap time and focused. She looked at the bamboo and told it he was just confused. But after looking back three times, she realized he was still. Just. Staring. Then the focus came back, and it was like he went from zero to focused on murder. Had she no faith in the people around her, Kenna might have actually been scared by how sharp and piercing his gaze was. Especially when it locked onto her eyes.
But she wasn’t. Instead, she gave him a bright smile and waved her fingers. When he waved back, Kenna knew that he had in fact, taken notice of her. So, she gave a bit of a skip to the door and pulled her scarf tight around her neck and shut the door behind her. No letting out the heat, after all! The girl drew level with the strange angry-looking man and realized that he was tall. Or, maybe he was tall to her? Either way, she smiled up at him with a wrinkle in her nose and pulled the scarf out of the way so if he was hard of hearing he could lip read. She was told it was polite to do!
“Hi,” she chirped at him with her eyes glowing. “You seem a bit lost. New here?” She knew that answer. She was great with faces, and she knew she had never seen his around before. But! That did not mean she should assume anything. He could have just been gone for a few years. Assuming was rude, after all. “I’m McKenna!”
