It was a normal Tuesday night for December, which meant it was an abnormal Tuesday night compared to the rest of the year. There was always a steady stream of customers through the Bins portion of Books & Bins, night or day, rain or shine, etc, etc. But the Books part got a real uptick in customers around the holidays. It had always struck Mircea as odd that the last month of the year tended to be packed solid with a wide variety of holidays ranging from religious to decidedly less so, but most of them seemed to require the exchange of gifts, so he was happy to be one of the few games in town as far as a place to buy gifts was concerned.
It made up for slow sales most of the rest of the year, honestly.
Even so, a busy Tuesday evening in December was still akin to more of a trickle than a steady stream, which meant even as he was stocking, each customer got a welcoming nod (which was really about as much friendliness as he could usually muster). But he had a decidedly different attitude when Xiaofan walked in. He hadn't stopped at Town Hall on the night advertised on the posters--couldn't take the time away from the store with the holidays coming up, after all--but he'd definitely taken a bit of a circuitous detour to work that night just to catch a glimpse of the mysterious poster hanger.
He was a sucker for a revolution after all.
So in addition to the usual emotionless nod everyone got when they walked into the store, she also got a somewhat dry, retail-robot, "Welcome to Books & Bins, let me know if I can help you find anything."
