Masquerade
Peisinoê van der Zee can be found, at least intermittently, at the table in the front. Masks are required for entrance, though no one will stop anyone from taking theirs off at certain points (but why would you, really?). They have grandly decorated masks at the table ordered from one of the craftsmen her family has called upon for generations so they are nothing to scoff at. This is where attendees can vote on the baking contest. They also have a list of food, bands, and volunteers.
The food selection is varied and protected in a way that any human barbecue would be envied. The park has a small parking lot that they have also taken over, placed a fair amount of picnic tables for seating and also several devoted to food with a small placard for species-specific foods - or ones that would be particularly hazardous to certain groups. Some of it is catered, but two tables are devoted entirely to the baking contest, these are numbered to make voting easier. Each dish is covered with a glass lid to protect them.
Smack dab in the middle of the street is a newly constructed stage for the bands. There isn't much in the way of 'modern' so to speak music, it's largely a mix of classical, jazz, swing and even big band. Several bands will be taking the stage tonight, including the house band from In Vino Veritas.
The road on either side of the stage has been temporarily transformed to make it easier for heels, for sliding and less, well, filthy. Like a ballroom that happens to be outside. There will be slow dances, there will be a waltz, regency dancing, and oh my who am I dancing with suddenly. If you are here, you are expected to be moving.
Want to walk the curated trails to have a conversation with your mysterious dance partner? Looking for a secluded corner? Just need a breath of air and curious about how this bit of nature has been reshaped for this night? Then the park is for you, careful those might not be ordinary fireflies in the air.
Like bookends, there are two gazebos bracketing the dance floor. While their general shape is pretty standard, the look of them very much is not. The one on the north side of the Gala was crafted by Earthen Species, wood shaped by hands and hearts where no part of it seems to have a concrete ending or beginning, with intricate carvings depicting stories and myths. The other Gazebo was crafted with tools, planned, it has intricate geometric designs, with the inside of it somehow looking like a small Cathedral. Both of them available for a small escape, people watching, or pictures. Beside each Gazebo is a mini-bar, with bartenders that were told explicitly to be careful what they serve and to cut people off earlier than they would at an ordinary bar.
