Date: 28 September 1997
Characters: Megan and Justin
Location: Paris
Status: Private
Summary: A real, non pretend date
Completion: Complete

Two months ago Megan would never have dreamed that she would actually be living with a bloke in a hotel room all her own. Or that that bloke was the one and only Justin Finch-Fletchley. Indeed, the thought that she would not return to school would have been completely unfathomable barely a month ago. So much had changed in the last two months, not only in her life but in the wizarding world as a whole. Nevertheless, she found herself considerably more comfortable in her new position, even though they had left everything behind. Were she a more nervous character, Megan would likely have wondered whether someone was looking for them, or even cared that they hadn't attended their summons. As it was, Megan was having fun pretending to be dating Justin, although part of her very much wished it was anything but pretending. Plus, kissing Justin was yummy.

Today, however, Megan was rushing back from the nearby grocers. She'd gone out for a while and had stopped by the grocers following on her way back to the hotel. It took a few minutes, but Megan soon made her way up to the their room. "Honey, I'm home," she said with a giggle only a couple of minutes later as she'd opened the door and stepped inside.

"Of course," he answered, and quite sincerely at that. Pathetic maybe, since she hadn't really been gone that long. Maybe it would be best not to tell her that he'd been worried about her.

He followed her over to the table, and eyed the bags. "What did you get?"

Looking over her shoulder, Megan shot Justin a grin as he said he'd missed her. She had missed him, of course, but she wasn't going to say that. "Aren't you sweet," Megan said as she turned back to her things. Riffling through the different things, Megan pulled out the shampoo and other things she'd needed to purchase.

At Justin's question, Megan found her cheeks turning a bit pink. The fact of the matter was that she'd bought a few things that weren't even remotely necessary. "Well... I was passing this shop, and I couldn't help it," Megan bit her lower lip and looked over at him as she pulled out the slinky black dress she'd bought, making sure not to mention the matching knickers. Unfortunately for Megan, she'd never been particularly good at not buying on impulse, even though she knew quite well they were supposed to be saving money.

Yep, sweet that was him, he thought, maybe just a little bit morosely. Who wanted to be sweet, anyway? There were a lot better things you could be.

This line of thought was completely cut off when Megan held up a dress that he felt safe assuming she would have looked amazing in. So maybe they weren't supposed to be spending wildly, but he wasn't about to complain. In fact he thought he ought to give her a good reason to wear it. As soon as possible. Since she'd already bought it, and all.

"It's nice. Very nice," he told her. "Um. We could go out to dinner, if you like. Somewhere nice. So you can wear it."

Megan found herself just a little excited at the thought of actually going out. It had been a while since they'd gone on a real date, and she could use some time not to worry about hiding away and pretending. Okay, so maybe it wouldn't actually be Justin and Megan dating, but it was about as close as they would ever get. "Are you sure?" She asked, trying not to sound overly excited at the though, but completely failing at the task.

"Oh! That would be brilliant Justin, thank you!" Megan gasped, deciding she didn't want to give Justin a change to change his mind. "It'll be brilliant, mark our first month here and everything. You won't regret it Just, I promise I'll look really fab," Megan said as she gave him a quick peck on the cheeks and bounced off to the loo, grabbing her clothing as she did so.

God yes, he was sure, especially when he saw how excited the prospect made her. He hadn't realized it had been an entire month since she'd been here, though. It didn't seem nearly that long, which was a good thing, he supposed.

"I'm sure you will," he said, grinning. "You always do." He watched her go off to the bathroom, and then turned to find something to wear himself. Would they have to keep up the Johnathan and Diana pretense while out on this 'date'. It would probably be for the best, but it would have been nice to take her out on a real date, as himself. He didn't quite know how to tell her that, however, and he was loathe to make things awkward between them. Especially now, when it was so important they seem natural around each other.

Faking it was then. Johnathan Fletcher was a lucky bastard. He changed into a suit and took a seat, picking up the newspaper again while he waited for Megan to finish getting ready.

Ah a date. So what if she was pretending to be Diana? At least he company was Justin, and quite frankly there was no one better. However, being the girl that she was, Megan had to make sure that she looked worthy enough to be seen on Justin's - er Jonathan's arms. Bloody Diana.

It took a while, but finally Megan was ready. Having spent the better part of an hour getting dressed, putting on her makeup and doing up her hair, Megan could only hope that Justin wouldn't be terribly bothered. That, and hop;e that he would really like what he saw. Putting on the last bit of her lipstick, Megan gave herself a look over in the mirror one last time before stepping outside. "I'm really sorry, love. I just -" Megan paused as she twirled around, so Justin could see every inch of the skin-tight low-cut dress. "What do you think?"

Justin had finished with the paper and turned on the radio to listen to the news there. Not that Muggle news, in French no less, did him any good. Still it was something to do while he waited for Megan to finish. He understood these things took time, since he'd heard it from his mother often enough over the years, and more recently from his sister.

When the door opened, he looked up, mouth falling open slightly. He didn't really think it would be appropriate to tell her what was on his mind at the moment. She looked even better in the dress than he imagined. It was rather low cut, and clung to her in all the right places. And lets face it, she had an amazing figure.

His mouth was still open, wasn't it?

"You look... beautiful," he told her, standing. "Well worth the wait. Are you ready, then?"

Megan's face lit up at the compliment. It was hardly difficult for Megan to be pleased, it was true she did look lovely, but it was all the easier when the words came from Justin. Of course Justin looked dashing, men always did look good in suits, but then there wasn't a moment when Megan didn't think Justin looked good. The way he stared made Megan just want him all the more.

"Thank you," Megan said with a blush as she walked over to him, stepping in close so she could brush imaginary lint off his collar and take his hand whilst there. "I'm ready. I wish it were just us though, not them" she said the last bit softly, referring to their personas.

Justin did a double-take at that. Of course, he'd just been thinking the same thing, but he hadn't been expecting Megan would. Or say it out loud. Now that she had, however, it made it easier to admit his own feelings on the matter. "Me too," he agreed. "Diana's great and all, but I prefer you. So just us to night, despite the names we're going by?"

He didn't let go of her hand, though, because, as Justin, he still wanted to hold her hand. Flushing slightly, he gave her a sheepish smile. "So. Dinner."

Megan felt her cheeks redden as Justin mentioned preferring her. Of course, it wasn't much of an improvement, but it was good to hear. "I prefer you too; you're cuter than Jonathan" Megan added with a giggle. She nodded though, and smiled. "Just us." She confirmed as she squeezed Justin's hand.

"Right. Dinner." Megan confirmed as she looked up at Justin. All of a sudden she was all too aware of how close they were, where they were, and the fact that the ever so comfortable bed was only a couple of steps away. Blushing slightly at those thoughts, Megan tugged on his hand and stepped toward the door, picking up her purse as she did so.

All right then. Just them. Now he was nervous. Which was probably ridiculous, considering, but he knew how to act when he was Johnathan. Justin had absolutely no clue how to proceed here.

Getting them to dinner might be a good start, and apparently Megan thought so, too. "So," he said, once they'd stepped out onto the street, "do you know where you want to go, or should we just walk around until we spot something that looks good?"

Miraculously, she was still holding his hand.

"Just see. It's more fun that way anyway," Megan responded grinning up at Justin as she gave his hand a squeeze. It was weird, actually being with Justin on a date. Not because she didn't want to, but because she'd been sure that Justin had been pretending the whole time.

Smiling occasionally up at Justin, Megan was trying very hard not to grin like an idiot. It was with a bit of a struggle that Megan actually managed to make it through the dinner without turning completely pink, and actually managing not to stare at Justin the whole time. Okay, so maybe she'd talked just a bit too much, but then again, Justin should have been used to that.

If Justin had had actual time to anticipate a date with Megan, he probably wouldn't have anticipated it going so well. And yet it was. Dinner had gone well, anyway, and he felt his courage build slightly. The wine probably hadn't hurt.

By the time he'd paid, he was feeling brave enough to slide his arm around her waist before he led her out of the restaurant. Not only did she look great, but she smelled really good, too.

"Are you all right?" he asked, in absolutely no hurry to get back to the hotel. It was a nice evening, and he really wanted it to last a little while longer. "Not too cold, or anything? You can have my jacket, if you want."

Overall, the dinner had gone loads better than she expected. She hadn't embarrassed herself nearly as much as she expected, although this was likely because she hadn't noticed considering the three glasses of alcohol she'd consumed. When they finally left the restaurant, and Justin's hand slid aorund her waist, Megan could have floated home. She leaned against him a little as they walked, enjoying the closeness.

"I'm fine, Justin, thank you," Megan said as she looked up at her date. Justin. Her date. That was really bloody brilliant. She was really enjoying this walk with Justin, and she only wished they could take a really long walk home. "But now that you mention it, maybe it's just a little cold?"

He stopped walking and let her go long enough to shrug out of his jacket and drape it over her shoulders. She looked nice in his jacket, he thought. Then again, she really did look nice all the time, he hadn't made that up. Even first thing in the morning, when her hair was a little messy. Maybe especially first thing in the morning.

"Meg," he started, putting his arm back around her waist and starting down the pavement again. "I had a really nice time tonight. I mean, I always have a nice time with you, you know." Merlin, he had no idea where he was going with this. "I- I'm glad you're here, with me."

Megan wasn't very cold, but Justin's gesture had been very sweet and she couldn't help but say yes. As she pulled the jacket tight around her shoulders, she smiled a little. It smelled like Justin.

"Me too. I like spending time with you." Megan said as she looked up at Justin and smiled again. She rested her head against his shoulder. "And I like you too, Justin." Ok so maybe that was pushing it just a little, but she'd sort of gotten that vibe, and maybe she was right? If maybe she wasn't well then... Megan felt herself turn a little pink and stare down at the floor, hoping that maybe he'd misunderstand.

Justin couldn't help but grin at that. She liked him too. That was bloody brilliant. Except that when he glanced down at her he noticed she was blushing, and not really looking at him anymore.

"I like you too. A lot. I mean, I have for a while, not just since we've been pretending to date, or anything." Okay, so he could continue to blather on like an idiot, or he could kiss her. Which seemed like a really great idea suddenly. So he stopped walking again, and tilted her head up, brushing his lips tentatively over hers.

Oh, hell, what if he'd misunderstood her? What if she just meant like in the general sense that friends usually liked each other. At least they were standing in the middle of a Muggle street, and she couldn't hex him. Although she did have a variety of other options.

Megan had absolutely no desire to hex hit or do anything to Justin, other than kiss him back. As he'd mentioned liking her, Megan actually managed to get a little giddier, the butterflies in her stomach growing a little bigger as he stopped and turned to face her. She let him kiss her, and closed her eyes as she savoured the moment. It was a real kiss, not that nonsense they'd been pulling for the last few weeks, and he was good. Standing on her toes, Megan slid her hands up Justin's chest and around his neck as she kissed Justin back.

Pulling back she grinned at Justin. "Me too. Since last term." She said, blushing just a little as she looked up at Justin. "Actually you were in the Herbology classroom, Ernie was lecturing you about something, but I dunno, you kind of looked different. Loads cuter, and I I just - I was hoping you'd kiss me, and you're really good and " Megan babbled kind of hoping he'd just shut her up.

Apparently he hadn't misunderstood at all. Because she was kissing him back. It definitely occurred to him that she kissed him back because she wanted to, not because they were pretending, and that made it all the more amazing.

He was a little disappointed when she pulled back, but cheered himself with the thought that she probably wouldn't mind if he did it again sometime. Of course, that was nothing compared to how he felt when she told him that she'd liked him since last term. He'd had no idea, obviously, assuming that she was way out of his league.

"Loads cuter? Really?" he asked a little stunned, because he really didn't think he was much to look at. It seemed impossible really, that she'd like him out of all the blokes she could have fancied, both wizard and Muggle, but he wasn't about to question his luck. Instead he leaned down and kissed her again.
