Rp: Celebrate good fortune
putting this where it should be, it was in her journal

Date: 22 September 1997, afternoon
Characters: Janelle Dorny and Padrig Cadwallader
Location: Madam Malkin's
Status: Public
Summary: Janelle is Celebrating
Completion: Complete

Janelle was celebrating her new job and to do this she would head to Diagon Alley, no longer would she bitterly look at the closed up shop that had once been her employer. At least now she was working for a strong business and if by change there was some sort of boss muggleborn they could easily be replaced by another senior staff member, the chances of being out a job because a muggleborn were slim now. All it mattered on was her talent at the job and really she wasn’t stupid she could manage front desk, answering owls and directing people where to go or getting other employees, she was bound to have to run a few errands or two. Really it wasn’t going to be like complicated Transfiguration.

She was wandering Diagon Alley and celebrating the way that Janelle Dorny did, and that was by shopping. She was walking past windows looking at the displays hoping for something to catch her eye. She figured she might purchase some new robes for her job. Plus nothing felt better than brand new robes on freshly washed skin, as long as they were made of good material.

With a more of a skip in her step than previous days she entered Madam Malkin’s, always a good place to start. She looked around at the fine wears, and headed towards the silk options, it had been a while since she had purchased new silk; of course it was more of a summer fabric. Her hands ran over a pale pink set of robes of silk, they were lovely.

Janelle was really liking the pink robes, even if they would be a bit much at work but even if she didn't purchase them for work they would be fun to try on. Plus there was a nice set of heather grey ones that could be nice as a more cotton type. The options were endless and she just wouldn't know which ones to buy without some help. She still held the pink in her hand when someone came up behind her.

"Well isn't this a pleasant surprise," she said softly as she moved around to face him hold up the pink robes. "Really, I think that place could do with a splash of colour," she winked at Pig. "Of course your opinion does count since you do work there." Janelle smirked as she got a bit of an idea but she would wait to see if she could find a collection of robes she liked.

She found a pair of black silk ones she liked and pair of cream. She held them in her arms as she wandered down the robes of colours looking for some heavier weight ones. "So what are you doing in here," she asked turning her attention back to him. "As I have this sneaky suspicion that you don't usually come here to spend a few hours."

He followed her with his eyes as she shopped. Lately he had gotten in the habit of comparing women to the two women he now seemed to know most closely, Bellatrix Lestrange and Marietta. Marietta was terribly controlled, every movement deliberate, inflexible, whereas Bellatrix seemed to move through life almost on wires, loose, unpredictable, violent. Janella moved with grace and a bit of aimlessness, enough so that he found himself tracking her movements uncertain where she would alight in her search for robes.

"I was dropping off something to be altered," he said. "Then thought I might look for some new robes, I'm in need of some heavier ones for winter wear, dark material." He crossed his arms and leaned against a display. The past few months had changed him, made him darker, more confident, although he didn't really realize it. He had always been cold and distant and a little overly superiour, but later it was something more. He was in his element.

"I like the white ones," he said. "Or Ivory? I don't know, women always have five hundred names for the same shade."

Janelle nodded her head as he spoke to show she was listening as she was moving through the robes pulling out ones that caught her eye. She had enough in her arms to try on now so she turned her attention fully back to him. "Yes the heavier ones are good for winter and I should really be looking for a pair myself." Janelle took a few steps towards him.

When she was close to him, but not enough to be invading space she smiled at him. "Really you like te Ivory?" She looked at them and nodded her head. "So do I," her eyes flicked up to him. "Would you like to see them on?" Pausing her eyes darted over his expression and his body language he definitely gave off an air of confidence with the way he leaned which was always a good thing.

"I need help choosing which ones to go with, I'm celebrating so I think I deserve more than one set." She nodded her head taking a few steps backwards before turning around and walking in the direction of dressing rooms.

"Indeed, especially if you spend anytime out doors at all."

She stepped closer to him and he met her eyes for a moment, cold and a little amused. If he remembered correctly Marietta wasn't overly fond of Janelle, although he might be mistaken on that.

"If you need help making up your mind," he said. "I have a few moments. And I should try these on of my own."

He stood outside the little curtained room as she went inside, his eyes on the fabric separating them.

"So how are you liking the Prophet?"

"Yes I don't intend to spend a lot of time outside," Janelle figured what was the point in going outside when you could get around by other means.

Janelle was pleased that he was willing to stick around to help her choose plus it allowed her to get to know her co-worker a bit more. Janelle slipped behind the curtain and pulled it closed behind her. She pulled on the new robe of ivory loving the feeling of the silk. Running her hands over the fabric as if smoothing it she opened the curtain of the dressing room. "I am liking more than my last job, but I do miss the old birds and their stories."

She stepped out and did a spin, "What do we think?" She asked looking over shoulder at him before turning back around to face him.

While he waited he pondered exactly how much it would anger Marietta to know he was here. Probably a lot. Which meant that one, he wouldn't tell her, and two he would stay however long he felt like.

He raised his eyebrow at the royal we. "I think you'll find if you hang around the newsroom long enough that half of them are old birds. And we think the robes look very nice."

His eyes flickered down around how they clung to her frame and he looked back up again. "Not for work, perhaps, but nice."

"But is it the same as the old birds with their tea?" Janelle shrugged her shoulders as she looked down at her robes. She liked them and if he said they looked nice then that definitely put them in the possibility pile.

"Well onto the next ones," she said with an excited tone, Janelle did love shopping. She closed the current behind her and picked out another pair to try on. This time she went with a heavier pair more suited for winter of a nice grey colour.

"I think these would be more winter and work appropriate," she said as she pushed open the curtain and did yet another spin for him. "What do you think?"

He had stood up by now and pulled off his outer robe, leaving him in only a shirt and trousers, and pulled the new one on over top. It brushed his shoe tops, severe black, the sleeves actually long enough for his arms. It looked... powerful somehow, and it made him feel almost obscenely pleased.

A reflection in the mirror was Janelle emerging again and he looked up in the mirror to meet her eyes.

"I think those are very good," he said. "They make your eyes stand out."

Janelle caught sight of him in his robes and smirked, "Now those look good on you," she nodded her head with a grin brushing hair over her shoulder as she looked down at her own robe. "Really do they?" Well if they did make her eyes stand out and were warm it was worth the purchase. "I think these are going to go in the definite pile,"

She slipped back in behind the current deciding the leave the pink behind and just went with the black robe to try one next. "I think this one shall be the last I try on," she said from behind the current. Janelle had left black behind when she had left Hogwarts but it could be nice to wear again. She felt like she would look a little dark in these and wasn't sure if it was a look for her.

Pushing back the curtain she came back out, "I'm not sure about these?"

"Alright, let's see it then," he said, taking off the robes and straightening his tie. He hadn't put his own robes on yet when she walked out, and he looked at her for a long moment in the black one.

"Get those," he said after a moment. "They suit you. Different from the usual, maybe. But I like them." Not that it mattered, he supposed whether he liked them or not, but she looked different in them. Less frivolous maybe, more a woman than a girl.

Janelle was pleased at the reaction she got. "Well different can be good and in this case I think so," she nodded her head and slipped back behind the to be dressed the same as she had been when she entered. Janelle decided on the heavier fabric robe and the black ones at Pig's suggestion. She left the others in the dressing room as she game back out.

"Thanks for the help with this," she gave him a bit of a flirtatious smile that could not be helped. "I think I would have been here forever if it were not for your help."

"I highly doubt that," he said, a bit acerbically but still amused. "Possibly only most of the afternoon."

He took his own robes up to the clerk to pay for them and then looked over at her.

"Well, I'll see you around the Prophet then?"

"Yes most of the afternoon I agree," she said with an amused tone as she headed to the clerk to way behind Pig.

"Of course you will, we shall go to lunch one day." She said with a warm tone and smile. "After all you are the only one I know."
