RP: Blind Date
Date: 28 August 1997
Characters: Adrian Pucey, Alicia Spinnet
Location: Diagon Alley, The Brass Lantern
Status: Private (mature content)
Summary: Adrian's mother has conspired with a friend to set their children up on a date. Adrian is not amused.
Completion: Complete

If you were a Pureblood of the upper class, it was generally expected that you would marry another Pureblood of the upper class and have lovely little Pureblood babies to carry on the family name and such.

And if, by a certain age, you were not dating, at least, these lovely Pureblood witches...well, your mother would intervene and set you up. Adrian could not count the number of dates he had been on because of his mother, and none of them had ended well. And this one wouldn't either, he was sure of it.

His mother hadn't even told him who the bird was, he thought with a sullen frown, just what restaurant she had made the reservations at, when they were for, and to please Adrian Nicholas wear your best cufflinks.

Which, of course, he was. He did like looking his best, after all. And so here he was, sitting at the table and waiting for whichever Miss Merry Sunshine he had a date with this evening.

Hmm. Hopefully it wasn't that older, homely looking bird over there. Or the little blonde ditz in the corner, although she was quite fit and so perhaps there was potential there.

Then his eyes landed on a familiar brunette and he let out a low whistle. Spinnet had some nice legs on her, that was for damn sure. Whoa. Wait. Spinnet was his date? Mercy.

"Well, hello there. Looks like we've been set up," he drawled, the corners of his mouth turning down in a slight frown.

Alicia felt an almost imperfect rage at him just then for looking so smug and self centered. Maybe it was her crap day. Or maybe it was because she couldn't really be mad at her mum. Much.

As it was, she decided if he could play Mr. Nice Guy, so could she.

So she pulled out her chair and sat down, slinging her purse underneath the table and then smiling across at him a bit coolly.

"It would appear so. I had no idea our mothers were friends though. Guess they've been sneaking around behind our backs."

Oh, well then. She was sitting down. That was just swell.

"So it would seem. Especially as they have apparently been conspiring against us." Hm. An entire date with Spinnet. Well, this should be interesting.

Hopefully she wouldn't try to steal his food like she did his Danish (and yes, he still maintained that she was the Danish stealer and not the other way around). The waiter came over and Adrian quickly ordered a bottle of wine, the best vintage he'd seen on the menu, and the roast chicken for himself.

Alicia liked how he just ordered the wine without consulting her, only not. The wine was overpriced and likely there were better, cheaper ones, but then again, he was a rich pretty boy used to having his way paid by Daddy.

"Apparently so." She ordered Salmon Oscar along with a salad, and leaned on one hand as if they had all the time in the world.

"So. How have you been?" she asked, as if this wasn't some horrible punishment being inflicted upon her. Honestly, even yesterday's scary Ministry bloke would have made her less likely to want to hex under the table.

Adrian watched her carefully as she ordered, keeping his expression passive and nonchalant. He would just have to suffer through the evening, and then perhaps he would at least have some stories to tell Montague.

"I have been just lovely," he replied, eying her carefully at her attempt to make small talk. "Quidditch practice. All the time. And yourself?"

Two could certainly play this game.

Quidditch, they could always talk Quidditch.

"Work. Quite a bit. Breaking curses, defying death, you know, the usual. How's your team?"

The waiter brought their wine and opened it, pouring officiously for Pucey. Really... how completely poncy could he be.

"Defying death. Sounds like a blast. I do that on a daily basis." He waited as the waiter poured the wine, picking up the glass and taking a careful sip- oh, yes. That was nice. Adrian normally wasn't a wine person, but he did enjoy it on occasion.

"The Falcons are doing quite wonderfully. We're hoping to be at the top of the League this season." Hoping. Planning. Knowing. It sounded far too cocky just to say it straight out, though, better to dress it up a bit.

"Yes, I follow them actually," she said, taking a sip of the wine, which wasn't bad but also not worth that much money. "I'd forgotten you were on the team." She said that with a cool little even smile.

"Odd, really, I was just talking about the Falcons the other day."

Adrian nearly scoffed. There was no way she had forgotten he was on the team- he was one of their star players! "Well, then. What do you think our chances are?"

He needed to figure out the best way to make the most of this date, so that it wasn't just a waste of a few of his hours. Hmm. Spinnet really was incredibly good-looking. Maybe flirting with her a bit wouldn't hurt.

"You look quite nice this evening, by the way. If I didn't say so already," he commented, making it sound almost as though it were an afterthought as he sipped his wine.

Alicia knew that he played for the Falcons, yet she watched them anyway. If nothing else, it was a pleasure the times she saw him take a bludger to the face.

"I think your chances are quite good," she admitted. "You're one of the best teams. Of course... with people being let go lately." That was saying it nicely, everyone knew that a few key players had suddenly left the country.

At his next words her eyebrows shot up. Really? They were doing that.

"Oh, well thank you," she said, almost sincerely. "You know, I clean up sometimes. Surprising though it may be." She crossed her legs and settled more firmly in her chair, swallowing a large drink of wine. She needed more alcohol for this, that was apparent.

People being let go. Heh. Or just taking off to avoid certain issues with investigations into blood status lately. Their team had lost one of their Beaters because of it just the week before, which Adrian was still smarting over. Who the fuck cared if the man was Muggleborn, he could hit a Bludger like nobody's business!

"You're very welcome." Hmph. No compliment for him? Ah well, this was fun anyway. Especially the way she fidgeted like that and immediately reach for her wineglass, nearly draining it. He wondered just how fidgety he could make her.

Taking another casual sip, he commented lightly, "Those boots, for instance. Has anyone ever told you you have fucking incredible legs?"

Alicia's eyes flew up to him, her face naked and exposed for a moment, all signs of pretense gone.

She recovered quickly, and turned a bit in her chair so he could have a better view, deliberately crossing them the other way.

"Yes, actually. Of course I usually get more compliments on my arse, but well, I don't suppose you got a good view of that." He was looking at her like he was wanting to laugh and she wet her lips with her tongue ever so slightly.

"Of course you have a nice arse too. Must be because we both spend so much time straddling a broom."
