There had been someone inside her office today, she was certain of it. Some files had been moved around, and there was actually one missing, that she'd had to report to the Head Goblin, and then she'd been blamed for losing it.

Then there was the strange, robed figure she'd seen talking to some of the goblins. He gave her an odd feeling up her spine, but she'd kept her eyes lowered in the corridors as she headed back to her own office.

Now she was closing up for the night, putting things in her to do box for tomorrow, clearing off the desk, and the sound of her doorknob turning made her heart start to pound a little hard as she took her wand up, keeping it out of sight.

Fleur put a finger over her lips in silent signal and shook her head. Who knew when someone was listening to their conversations or not anymore. The only place she felt safe for certain was at home.

She pulled on her lightweight coat and freed her hair from it before picking up her briefcase and keeping her wand handy.

"Should we stop at the market before home? Are you wanting dinner?" An unfamiliar man headed down the corridor next to her office, looking them over as he passed, and Fleur felt the same strange prickling she had before as she pulled her office door shut and locked it. "We could have fish," she said lightly. "Perhaps open that new wine?" It was distraction, this talk, nothing more. Personally she felt she had no appetite right now, not after the strangeness of this past week.

Bill's eyes followed the back of the bloke who'd given them a once over as he'd passed. He didn't recognize him and his gaze had lingered a bit too long to be considered casual.

After the bloke turned the corner and was out of sight, Bill offered his arm to his wife. "No, something...beef. Steak. We can open the red your parents sent." They made their way out of Gringotts and toward the market.

"Now do you want to tell me what happened?" he said, turning a bit as someone passed them by. It looked an awful lot like the bloke he'd seen at the bank earlier today, in the lobby, talking to Griphook.

"Non. Pas à ce moment." She looked over to him, her fingers threading through his as they walked, the simple act of holding his hand better than anything else could have been.

They walked a bit further, looking like two lovers on a stroll, while really she was noting all the changes in the Alley the past few weeks.

"Je ne sais," she murmured, reverting to her native tongue by habit as she unpacked their canvas sack from the market. She put the potatoes to scrub in the sink and then turned back to him, crossing her arms over her chest.

"I do not know. I don't think they were, but it is difficult to know, there are so many people in and out all day now, when there were never any before. There was one, the man in the dark robe, you have seen him, non? Talking to the goblins? They do not like him, I think, but I think they have as little say in this as you or I."

Normally, Fleur speaking in French was an enormous turn on for him as it was all breathy sounds and murmurs. But the rest of what she'd said was too alarming.

"Yeah, I've seen him. I think I saw him pass us on the street, too. Might've been him in the grocer's. I didn't see anyone, but I had this sensation. Prickles," he tried to explain, shrugging. She was putting the freshly scrubbed potatoes into the oven to roast. Bill took the steaks out of the package, intending on seasoning them a bit. "Do you remember which files went missing? Whose accounts?" She would've reported it and he could only imagine the goblins' reactions. He lifted the steak to his mouth and took a bite. "How badly did they react to hearing about the missing files?" he asked as he chewed and swallowed.

Fleur nodded as she put the potatoes to roast and went to the refrigerator for some lettuce for a salad for herself. Bill would definitely not want one tonight, she thought, as she saw him take a bite of his steak raw.

"The Goblins blamed it on me," she said with a shrug. "I saw them whispering to each other though. They know it wasn't me, but I think they are unwilling to admit yet that things are growing out of their control."

She set the lettuce down and took the steak from Bill's hand with an upraised eyebrow, cutting off a piece for herself to cook, and giving the rest back to him.

"How much longer, do you think, before we won't be working there?"

Bill blinked and looked down at the raw steak in his hand. That was...slightly nauseating. And yet appealing at the same time. Fleur didn't seem too upset with it. Maybe he ought to sear it just a little. Honestly, warm and raw seemed much more appealing.

"I dunno. I think the goblins will try to keep the Ministry and its sort" - and his tone left no doubt as to what he thought of that sort - "out of Gringotts, but..." He shrugged and put his piece of steak into the same pan as hers. "Light sear please," he requested.

"I've got enough money in my vault for us to live on for a while should we stop working there." He likely ought to take it from the vault while he still could. "And I suppose I ought to work on that chicken coop this weekend." He bit back a grin, wondering what she'd say about the chickens.

"I hope they do," she said. "Goblins have run Gringotts for longer than history remembers. So one would hope they have ways of keeping their secrets."

She washed her hands as the meat started to cook and then dried them, turning back to face him with a worried expression.

"Still, it could be a while," she said softly. "We should be careful. I have some money too, you know that, and Papa and Mere would send us something if we needed. Just... maybe the chickens aren't a bad idea. Or the goat." She tried to return his smile. "Provided I don't have to milk it. And that you don't try to eat it." She actually smiled at that, and she turned the steaks with a fork. Luckily she liked hers very rare. She also had a fondness for Steak Tartare.

"Just promise you'll share some of it with me," she said, trying to keep a brave face on. It was easier to with him around, she had to admit. If it was just her she might have gone home to France, but England was her home now. And this fight... it was too important. They had to win it somehow, there was no other option.
