“I’m sure there’s one parent that probably has,” Cody countered with a laugh. “Not every little girl likes barbies, right?” Or maybe they did, he only had one little girl so he didn’t really know if that was the case or not. “Syd doesn’t care for video games much, although she does have an impressive comic book collection.” Because that had been Cody’s escape when he was younger, so he passed that part of his childhood onto his daughter. “Don’t you even dare,” Cody warned, though it wasn’t necessarily threatening. “I know, I know. But Syd insisted.” He replied with a laugh. “And who can say no to puppy dog eyes?”
Cody rolled his eyes. “Of course you’d get behind that idea,” he remarked, his tone amused. “Oh, and MomZor doesn’t?” Cody asked with a quirk of his eyebrow. “They both sound kind of lame if we’re being entirely honest here.” The whole thing was a joke and his tone was still amused as he spoke, in reality the whole ‘Zor’ name no matter what was in front of it was silly and ridiculous. “Nah, I don’t mind,” Cody paused as he thought of the best way to explain things. “Sydney’s mom and I were married, but the thing about Ashley was she never wanted to be a wife or mother, so she left.” It was the short version of things, but with Sydney running around so close by he wasn’t entirely comfortable going into more details. “We’re divorced and Ashley isn’t in Sydney’s life, but she doesn’t know exactly what happened with her mom.” And she wouldn’t until Cody was positive she was old enough to handle the information.
He didn’t judge Raine for her choice in profession, but Cody couldn’t entirely grasp what it was like to not be able to tell his child what he did for a living. That had to be difficult, keeping that part of her life from her girls. “It’s not easy, but you and I seem to be managing,” he remarked with a shrug. “Maybe being stuck on this island is making up for all the times we had to be away from our kids…” It was an awful way to make up for it, but he thought a positive spin on it might not hurt.
“Well, the girls seem to have found the perfect niche with each other while playing,” Cody remarked as he watched the girls race around after each other. Chloe got to be the braniac while Zoey and Sydney were a lot more hands on with their game. “We should probably make sure they don’t start plotting world domination or something, though…” It wasn’t a thing he truly expected to happen, but it was amusing to talk about anyway.
Cody quirked an eyebrow. “Kinda?” He knew Raine was only teasing him, but he still put on the act of behaving as if he were offended. “How’d I get bumped to only kinda?”
