With a wry grin, Raine made a doubtful face. "I'm sure," she teased, shoving him lightly in the shoulder. "No parent of a little girl gets out of childhood without playing at least one game of Barbies." She looked over at her girls. "Chloe was more into that than Zoey was, though. With Zoey, it was more action figures and video game character figurines." She smirked. "Aw, that's disappointing. Maybe I'll have to put the idea in her head now." She looked at Cody with a huge grin on her face. "You don't say," she mused. "You as Goliath? Perish the thought!" The grin on her face was amused and she shrugged.
"I think I heard Addy tell you that you're a mom with a penis. I could totally get behind this theory," she joked with a big smirk. "So you could totally be MomZor, just... a BoyMomZor or something." The absurdity of the joke didn't escape her attention, but she didn't let it show. "DadZor just sounds so much lamer," she said with a little eye roll. "Do you, um... do you mind if I ask what happened to Syd's mom? Did you, like..." Had they split up? Was she alive? Raine was curious, but it was one of those questions that there was no right way to ask.
She nodded her understanding. "I didn't figure it would be. You love her." She pushed her hair behind her ear and gave him a sad little smile. "I get you. Believe me, I do. Being a single mom isn't easy, either," she explained. "My job's a little more forgiving when it comes to spending time with the girls, at least on school nights. But it's harder on weekends. Leaving them with a sitter... I've always hated it." She shook her head, ignoring the little dizzy whirl that waved through her.
Raine laughed a little bit and nodded her head. "That totally fits her." She was mama's little brainiac. Honestly, she didn't know how Chloe got so smart, since she wasn't the smartest person in the world and Jonas had been as dim as a dead lightbulb, but she always thanked her lucky stars for it. "She probably relishes that part, too." Since she'd gotten back from the cave, since Max had saved her, she'd more than fallen back into her old, calm habits.
With a smile, she shrugged her head in Cody's direction. "And I guess the fact that her dad's kinda a good friend doesn't hurt either." She paused for a beat before repeating, "kinda."
