Daniel kept a careful eye on the two children as they moved along with him. He knew they were almost dead on their feet and he didn't want them to trip or stumble. As usual, Daniel was on high alert and tense. Listening and watching for any sigh of danger, almost to the point of paranoia.
The light was starting to dim and he really wanted to find some form of shelter soon. All three of them were tired and cold, and Daniel could feel the deep aches radiating through his thin frame, the weight of the large pack he carried and the guitar case slowly getting heavier with each step.
A noise to his left had him snapping his head around so fast he almost ricked it and he stopped walking, knowing the two children would do the same. The tired man let out a small sigh of relief as a deer bounded away. He knew he was on edge and overly so but it was better than missing something, wasn't it?
Daniel hoped they found somewhere to rest soon because they couldn't just stay here, out in the open, it wasn't safe, and he was absolutely sure he couldn't carry either of them without his legs and back giving out and he knew neither child could walk much further unaided.
