Forget to mention...

"I think both this story and the other inspired by the prompt are running into a wall because of the improbabilities of SGA canon, especially when combined with McShep."

I can't speak for anybody else, but the improbabilities of SGA canon really had no part in my reaction to the fic. Whether you're writing fic for something as daft as SGA or as realistic as a Ken Loach kitchen sink drama (or Lost or 24 or Supernatural or Shakespeare or Care Bears or My Little Pony (shudder), anything really) for that matter, the issue at hand is the same. One of the great things about SGA IMO, is that its fandom is so diverse when it comes to subject matter and tone. There are so many different styles of fic out there, many of them (in fact probably the majority of them) don't really use canon as anything other than a jumping off point. I mean, I love SGA, but I would be the first to admit it's not exactly the most ground-breaking, in-depth or even well written show out there. Luckily we have fandom itself to make up the gap ;)
