Anakin Solo had just begun to feel like himself again. It had been nearly three days since they had reached the Errant Venture and in that time, he'd ended up serving as a nearly constant emotional support for Tahiri through examinations and debriefings, and at times simply sitting next to her and trying to help chase away the cold nightmare feeling of everything in the Force. When Jaina and Jacen had returned to Coruscant they'd offered for him to come back with them and he'd known that he couldn't. His best friend needed him - desperately. She'd been through hell, and back, and while it had saved their skins below, and while what had happened on Yavin 4 to both of them was likely to provide the Jedi with a greater understanding of the Yuuzhan Vong (and most certainly had provided Anakin with a greater understanding) it had still been difficult. It left him with questions about Tahiri, about himself, and he knew he was exhausted, tired, and was still trying to rebuild stores of strength from the nearly month long experience. Even with the Force he couldn't automatically rebuild those up. And recently, his thoughts had wandered to another best friend - just one he hadn't known quite as long. And while he couldn't return to her and leave Tahiri (even if he wanted to see Rikki, Tahiri needed him in the moment) it didn't mean he wasn't thinking about her again. There were things he wanted to ask her and things he wanted to talk to her about. Pieces of everything he had put together working with Rapuung and rebuilding his lightsaber. The things he hoped he'd figured out, and the things he was still working on. And he knew that it might be weeks before he saw her on Coruscant again. Comms were unlikely to be clear enough for long term communications and less secure than anything else. But the Jedi HoloNet transmissions were encrypted and they were a possibility. He checked the time. Booster kept the Venture on Coruscant time, which at the moment, came in useful. It was late, but Rikki was frequently up late, which meant if she wasn't out, maybe he'd catch her in real time. It was worth trying -- and if he didn't, then he'd have a message waiting for him in the morning. Half reaching out to check on Tahiri in the Force and finding her sleeping, he reached for his datapad, opened it up and started typing. |
So, probably Jaina and Jacen told you I'm alive and all that. I guess, I'm half hoping you're up, and maybe we could chat this way. I thought about trying coms, because you know, I've missed our whole - late night keep each other awake until we fall asleep - holocom conversations, but I'm pretty certain it'd be like trying to read what I'm saying through a Hoth snowstorm, you know? |
