After a long day and a terribly exciting afternoon, Sebastian was ready for a relaxing meal and some rest. He was sorely tempted to have it in his quarters, but he felt it was crucial that he make himself available to the crew at the beginning of their journey. There would be plenty of time to spend by himself while in deep space. Not that he expected anyone to actually speak to him, but at least they would see him out among them.
He had just finished reporting and reviewing that some bugs in the ESH Program were fixed by Engineering. Following the Captain's orders, he had asked that a good percentage of the "Emergency Security Holographic Program" be reprogrammed to focus on alerting and instructing all civilians on board about the differences between red, yellow, aqua-marine alert. He had tried to reprogram it himself, but somehow someone had screwed up and some of the subroutines would not recognize his voice command authorization.
Being the anal-retentive perfectionist that he was, he had originally intended that the system quiz civilians to see if they in fact had learned the different degrees of alert, but apparently there was some obscure protocol that made it objectionable for non-military personnel to be quizzed in such a manner.
Sebastian found a small booth with a good view of the Informal Crew Lounge and sat with his tray. He finally felt like he could stop for a moment and be still for the first time since he had gotten up that morning. So much had happened in one day.
He hoped the missing scientists would be unharmed, he thought randomly, staring at nothing in particular.
