Thread: Lessons
WHO: Teddy and Caleb
WHEN: Wednesday evening
WHERE: Teddy's room, Pegasus dorms
Teddy had been excited about teaching Caleb sign language since they had talked about it on the journal system. It wasn't often that he got to use ASL anymore as the staff all talked to him and made him talk back, and it was important to his family that he use his words more than gestures because they wanted him to ensure that he could function perfectly well. They meant well, they really did, but Teddy thought that sometimes maybe they forgot that he still didn't like the awkward way that he sounded when he spoke and the clumsy way in which he formed words. He'd only been speaking for two years, he knew he needed to give himself a break but his brothers were both so... awesome and popular in their own way and people loved them that Teddy just felt... awkward, like the odd one out for more reasons than just being the youngest.
But now, he had a friend who was coming over to his room and who wanted to learn more about sign language. He was stoked at the idea that he could talk to someone in what sort of amounted to a secret code as not everyone knew ASL or enough to understand what was being said. It was awesome, the idea that he'd have a friend like that.
He'd spent ages making sure that his room was tidy and neat and clean and in a good order so that it would be comfortable for someone else to be in, and he'd stuck a note on the door for Caleb to see which read Let yourself in as he'd taken out his hearing aids in preparation for their session. H hadn't grabbed any snacks, and now that it was approaching time for Caleb to arrive, he was beginning to worry that he'd made made a mistake in not providing food. He stood in the middle of his room rocking on his heels and resisting the urge to wring his hands together, instead falling back on an old Rley family trait and pushing his hands through his hair in his nervousness and anticipation for his guest's imminent arrival.
