Thread: PBD 2018 WHO: All students and staff present, BYOT (bring yo' own thread) WHERE: The Lake WHEN: Saturday morning (March 10)
It was a crisp though cloudy March morning for the Polar Bear Dive. Some staff had gone ahead to make preparations for the event. The lake wasn't frozen but that certainly didn't mean it was warm in any sense of the word. However, to make up for the it, and to avoid hypothermia, the witches in the faculty prepared areas using magic that would make the climate hot though comfortable, perfect for warming up after a plunge into the freezing water. Soft dry towels exuding heat were available for students and staff to wrap themselves.
Hot chocolate, tea, and coffee were readily available as well, to warm the insides as well as the outsides. A light breafkast of doughnuts in all flavors also sat waiting for students who finished and were ready to settle down and socialize. Even if the sky lacked sunshine, there was mirth, excitement, and chatter filling the air.
Having dives to take care of herself (as well as Clara), the two took turns keeping track of the dives completed. The two mentors were clearly the ones in charge of the affair, as Mr. Kaden had departed a few days before. The werebear was sorely missed amongst the diving faculty, but there was plenty of action afoot. Some kids ended up pushed in, others (commonly vampires) offered to take dives for others. A few students, confident at first, assured the two they would get all of their dives done. However, after the third and fourth time, they handed over a few crumpled bills to get out of finishing their dives.
In the event that someone was stubbornly confident and kept diving when they needed to stop, Mr. Pheres was on hand, prepared with magic to help prevent hypothermia. He also had other tools of the healing trade in case something else happened.
Overall, the fundraiser was a success, garnering nearly $3000 for the homeless shelter in Camden, which a member of faculty delivered later that day on the school's behalf.
