Thread: Preparing for Christmas
WHO: Dana Novak and Leon Vincent
WHEN: Dec. 15, afternoon [slightly forward-dated]
WHERE: Art Room
The day filled with classes, club meetings, and sports ended. There was still a lot of snow covering the ground, and so many of the students who weren't out playing in it stayed indoors. With the holiday coming up, Dana wanted to finish the gifts for her friends. That involved each of them sitting with her in the school's art classroom for a period of time so she could finish their paintings. Dana used oil paint for the texture. It took a while to dry, but it was worth the effort. It gave her what she wanted, and she found the impasto style to be one that worked most effectively for her. Currently she was standing before a large canvas that was almost as tall as she was. She wore a simple shirt dress and her shoes were placed neatly near the easel, leaving her barefoot. Her hair was pulled partially up in a messy style, making her look like she rolled out of bed and came straight to the studio. The sort of bohemian look worked for her though, and she hummed softly to herself as she continued to paint Leon who sat on a chair under a light, giving his facial features some dramatic shadowing she wanted. The painting itself was done in an impasto style. The thick oil paints took a long time to dry, but the effects were what she wanted. Her style was abstract in some senses but if someone looked long enough, they would understand what she painted. For Leon, it was a close-up of his face. The way the light hit his cheek bones and then the curve of his jaw. His eye was there too and while the other parts felt very simple in color, the eye had surprising detail. The sort of detail that evoked emotion. She had a wide brush in her hand though, caking on the oil paint to get the color of the corner of his mouth just right. Dana's humming came to a pause and she smiled at him as her head peeked out from behind the canvas, "It shouldn't take too much longer. Thank you for letting me finish." What Leon didn't know was that the image would be his Christmas present. She came around the easel to get a closer look at his face, her eye staring at his for a moment as she looked at the palette and began mixing some of the colors again to get just the right shade. There was a little paint on her cheek and on the tip of her nose and also staining the front of her shirt. "Do you celebrate Christmas like other people do?" she asked. By now, Leon would be used to questions from Dana, as she often asked many. Usually cultural things, and she asked until Leon decided not to answer anymore. |
