Thread: Parasites
WHO: Cressida possessed by Hecate, then EVERYONE!
WHEN: Saturday evening, right after dinner time
WHERE: The hunter’s lair, the school, the graveyard, the woods
NPCs: Ms. Menides, hunters

Hecate was known by a number of names, depending on the civilization. The word "goddess" was simply a label placed upon her, though whether she was a goddess or not was arbitrary. Especially now that the whole world hung in a dangerous balance. Beings like Hecate no longer made themselves known and many of them existed as entities now that the rest of the world, and their chief believers, relied more on science than they did on faith. So for Hecate to come into this world, it would take a great deal of magic, and a figure of great faith. Faith did a funny thing to a person. Made them susceptible to serving as a host because he or she would be willing to do it. And in Cressida Hallowfen, Hecate found an extremely willing host.

She'd kept an eye on the witch since she was just a girl. Hecate bestowed Cressida with her first familiar. A Cretan hound that Cressida would affectionately called Argos. Never once had Cressida's faith wavered, even when it lost her a future with the man she loved and perhaps still loved in a way. Such willingness to bend to Hecate's need and her position at the school, so close in proximity to an old friend of Hecate's, made Cressida not just a willing host, but a perfect host.

So when Cressida finally laid down to rest from her long labours spent with other witches to track down the intruders, Hecate acted. Cressida was there still, somewhere in the recesses of this mind, but the psyche was dominated by Hecate, goddess of magic. Wearing a robe over the night gown, she walked barefoot with not only Lord Byron at her heels, but other members of the canidae family that felt the strong influence of Hecate. Foxes primarily and even a wolf that wandered into the area. They surrounded her as sentinels until the possessed form of Cressida saw the Fury.

"Tisiphone," she stated in a voice that was Cressida's but layered with another voice. Like two people speaking simultaneously. Cressida's appearance itself looked different too. In some lights she looked like Cressida and in others her hair was darker, like a moonless night, and her eyes a midnight blue flecked with stars. Even her nose at certain angles appeared different. Grecian, much like the dress that shimmered violet over the dark blue of Cressida's robe.

***

Ms. Menides balled her right hand into a fist. It was done. Before her lay the smoldering remains of the hunters that had dared trespass her school, had dared take the life of one of hers. The ones that had dared, somehow, to bind her in this mortal body and deprive her of her visionary qualities. Her eyes reverted from an intense, furious white to their normal dark shade as her fury abated. For now.

It had been all thanks to Ms. Jordan. She had been able to track the hunters, pinpoint their location. Then Cressida had taken over, gathering the witches among the faculty and calling in help at Nazar. They’d done a powerful scrying ritual, finding the hunters right there, in Camden. At her door. When Cressida had given Ms. Menides the information, the fury had said very little. Possessed by an eerie, unnatural calm, Ms. Menides had risen from her chair and had said but one word, in fact. “Come.”

You cannot stop the Fury.

Ms. Menides had walked into their lair, as easy as if their magic and their locks weren’t even there. She had surprised them, talking at their kitchen table, and Ms. Menides had narrowed her eyes. They began talking, shouting, but Ms. Menides hadn’t listened. The time for talking was done. She had simply shown her true self to them, and then she had let them burn.

“Tisiphone.”

Ms. Menides blinked, feeling a quaint feeling she hadn’t felt in a very long time. Surprise. Huh. She turned around, tipping her head to the side. “Lady Hecate,” she said, giving a sage nod to the woman who was more than Ms. Hallowfen. “It has been a while since I let myself go like that.”

***

It had been some time since Hecate spoke with the Fury. Centuries. Millennia, actually. Years passing to others as an eternity but for Hecate it was an instant. Old didn't even been to describe the ages of the Fury and the Witch Goddess. There was a glimmer of a smile there before her eyes rested upon the destruction left behind. Hell has no Fury. St. Margaret's did. Did the students there even have a passing idea of what sort of woman their headmistress was? Likely not. The smile on Hecate's fast didn't last though and faded as quickly as it arrived.

"There has not been reason to," Hecate said, stepping forward and drawing closer to where Ms. Menides stood, "But it is not over. I come bearing a warning." Magic was a very broad term and words like sorcery and witchcraft also attached themselves to Hecate. The face shifted a little to another, the same dark blue of the eyes but white like the burning of a dying star shimmered, "Something is coming."

It was so vague but Hecate could only see so much. Whatever it was, it was unlike anything she'd ever seen before. As much as people wished and desired for gods to know all, they unfortunately did not. For even "gods" were limited and Hecate found herself frustratingly so.

***

In the graveyard, something stirred. Something not from this world. It had waited for this, waited for the fury to fuel their plan. And now she had. The time had come. This was their chance.

It looked alien. A quadrupled being with a long, forked tail, with sharp claws and teeth. It looked like it was made of skin, bones and muscle, barely any meat on its frame, bones sticking out at every angle. Spindly and thin, but it moved like a predator, more determined than even a cat. And, what was worse, there was intelligence in its amber eyes.

Its tailed flicked. A fissure in the air appeared, seeming to spring up from the broken headstone. It started out small, a tiny tear, but it ripped itself open. Soon, it was large enough. The one on this end let out a little keen as the first of the host jumped through. And then another. And another.

Soon, an army had formed. Not just small ones, as large as a human, but some were bigger and bulkier, the size of minivan. They gathered quietly, looking at the castle as they did. And soon, they had determined there were enough. In the light of the setting sun, they took off: towards the castle. Towards the dorms. This is where they would start.

And through the portal, more kept coming…

***

Bethany and Martin were casualties. However, before their fiery end, their signal had been reached by the other hunters of their Order and those individuals were moving in fast. They had been waiting for this, sign of the Otherworldly ones to try again to break through to this realm. Martin had taken a risk with the vampire to lure them out, and it had worked, but he’d paid for it with his life. They were clever, the beings from the other dimension. The chameleon scout had successfully coaxed the rage from the fury to power their portal.

Hunters from all over were closing in. They knew what was coming. They’d seen it happen in other worlds. Their Order was made up of witches who were in tune with the earth, sensitive to its changes, and the earth itself powered their travels so that most of them arrived just as the portal was tearing wide open.

This wasn’t just a threat to St. Margaret’s. Their whole world was at risk of invasion if they couldn’t stop the flood. The hunters would set aside old grudges and join forces with the Academy to face this greater threat. The enemy of your enemy is your friend.

***

Ms. Menides blinked her eyes. She Knew. Her sense was back, but it didn’t make her feel relieved. She now knew what she had unleashed. “I have been a fool,” she whispered. “We have to get back to the school. Immediately.”

She reached for her phone and, as she strode off, she began calling her faculty. Micah. Micah was most likely to be in the dining room.

At Ashton's yell Claire knew her first job was to make sure the students of Ladon were taking care of. She shifted as she noticed the other Ladon weres doing the same. Her alpha side came out as she began barking orders of some of the group to guide those who couldn't fight to safety and to guard them. The rest of the group followed her outside to join the fight.

She saw Thierry and Sara with a few others doing a fairly good job. However, as any pack leader knows the larger the target the more wolves are needed. While these parasites weren't huge there were many of them so it would take more wolves to end them. She let out a loud growl and leaping over Sara caught one of them in the throat and took it to the ground. With a firm jerk of her head it's throat was ripped out. She took the one approaching her in the ankle and with a shake of her head to the left she sent it flying into another one to her right. Two other wolves jumped on them to finish the job.

Her eyes glowed in the darkness as she turned to see another one. She let out a low growl, no one was going to hurt her pack, she wouldn't let them, this was why should refused to leave with Doyle. This was her place, this was her job, she was an Alpha and this was the time to do her duty.

Thierry and the others with him were already handling things well enough. The numbers were unfortunate though, so when Claire and the few she brought with her who had lagged a little behind arrived, it was welcome. Sara's help was more appreciated as it got the Otherworlder off him. Thierry was up on his paws again and back in action, not wasting whatever time they had in fighting.

Claire seemed to be functioning more on her own, so Thierry took the time to start barking more to give others some structure. They fought as a pack and their strength was best laid in strategem. Thierry wasn't always someone to take a leading, but nobody was really questioned him about it since he was telling his fellow weres to do things that made sense. Work together. Fight together. Ambush and overpower.

At some point a person might stop to think that they were essentially killing these things, but that wasn't really happening right then. The weres saw a threat to their school. In the distance, Thierry was sure he heard the familiar roar of Mr. Kaden. While wolves were best fighting in a pack, a bear was the equivalent of a few wolves. No time to pity anyone who dared to try to take on that bear.

Thierry heard something in the distance. Beneath the growls and screeches and shouts of others. His head picked up and turned, listening for it. It was a rumbling of sorts and he turned his entire body in the direction it came. Thierry barked to Claire and to Sara. something big was coming this way and no wolf on their own—no matter how strong he or she thought him or herself to be—could take it on.

The orders he gave were simple. Sara would use her speed to run and trip the thing up with another wolf taking back up. Thierry told Claire and another to pounce as soon as it hit the ground. Disorienting the thing would be a good time to strike and Thierry ran off, turning his head briefly to bark at the others to get moving.

Claire rose he head in the direction Thierry mentioned and she heard it as well. Something big was coming. Suddenly she realized he was barking out orders of how to attack. Now she was fine with his directions to others but once he started telling her what to do...no that wouldn't do. His tactics had been good but with a larger beast, no his plan wouldn't do.

Do reassert her dominance she gave a low growl. While his instincts were good he hadn't been a werewolf as long as her. And that plan was reckless and could end up in Sara or others being killed by trying to trip it.. Taking down something large was different. She had killed a Wendigo...she knew how to handle larger beasts and he and others would benefit from her experience. With that she called attention to herself and barked out some of her own orders. They would work to surround it...much like when they hunt, trap it. Survey the situation noting the things weak points before rushing into anything was the norm for hunting larger prey. They would circle it. It would eventually choose a target to rush and escape, that is when they all would attack it at once. When moving it's defenses would lessen and taking it down would be simple.

With a final bark she told them to split into two groups, stay low to the ground, try to stay out of site, not let the creature see until it was already surrounded.

Now wasn't the time to fight over tactics and Thierry snapped back a vicious growl at Claire telling her that as he went forward. Others followed with him and whether or not she decided to follow was up to her. They had to move and the closer that thing go, the greater they risked not only not getting it down but allowing whatever else was in the woods to catch up with them. Not to emntion they couldn't use all the weres to fight one thing. They needed to have one smaller group focus on this and trust the rest of the pack or the pride of whatever they wanted to call it to know their job was to keep the Otherworlders off.

This wasn't the time for a fight for dominance and Thierry wasn't going to accept it. There were lives at risk. There were people here that couldn't fight and wasting time arguing over which was the better plan was pointless.

Thierry didn't consider himself an alpha but the response he gave to Claire made him sure as hell look like one. The gray-blue eyes gave her a look that simply said, You're either coming with us or you're covering us, make your choice. And he was gone, along with others. It was up to Claire now to decide how she wanted to proceed.

Thierry ran forward, other wolves following his lead and a couple of weres of the larger cat variety attacking what Otherworlders sought to stop Thierry and others.

Min was used to running with her family packs, she was a cougar on both sides, but they typically went hunting or just enjoyed the freedom of the outdoors. She'd never gone hunting for this particular reason. Maybe at a later date it would worry her how easily she took to it, how she let the rage carry with her into the shift, and she followed the others without question. There wasn't an ounce of alpha or leadership qualities in her; she might march to her own drummer as a human, but in a pack she was one of many.

She didn't hesitate to rip and bite and tear what monsters stood in her path. Her anger soared as she snarled at a creature, one who dared come onto the territory she and the others resided on. There already were predators on this land. They would learn the hard way to stay off were territory. Min winced as her left side got sliced. She took the chance to stop, breathing heavily, licking at the blood there during a quiet spot.

The werecougar looked between Claire and Thierry, curious, for she'd never really seen a disagreement of power play out like that. If Min could shrug she would've, instead she snorted, and ran after Thierry once he started to move. There were still intruders to fight off.

Sara was pretty oblivious to the tension mounting between Thierry and Claire. All she knew was that these things needed to die and the pack - even the kitty that was normally a loner animal in the wild - was the weapon that would take them out.

Springing into action immediately at Thierry's command, she raced under the feet of the big creature and dizzied it with her darting and biting and darting again. The arctic fox moved in a blur, snarls and tufts of fur flying. The big one was too slow to catch her and she was so focused on taking him down that she didn't move fast enough to dodge a smaller beast that came up beside her and picked her up by the scruff of her neck.

The Otherworlder hissed something in a strange language as she dangled. Then it flung her carelessly against a tree and Sara yipped in pain as she struck the bark, falling limp on the ground at the base of the tree.

There should have been others to stop what happened to Sara from happening, but not everyone had been playing support. The larger beast was disoriented and those that went with him did enough to knock it down. Thierry however was distracted by the thing that had taken Sara into its mouth. He barked to Min to take that thing out and he leaped up, his teeth biting hard into the larger beast. Other weres that were part of Thierry's pack from Louisiana swarmed the larger creature and began ripping it apart.

But Thierry drew away and immediately went to where Sara was lying motionless. His nose buried into her fur, smelling for something and feeling the warmth that still radiated off of her. She was alive. There was still a fight going on but Thierry had to make sure she was okay and began nudging at her. He barked a few times and nudged her again, trying to coerce her into getting up.

Turning his head, he barked at the others to continue using previous tactics of flanking. Attention back to Sara, he began pushing at her with his paw. Not the gentlest way to try to rouse her but nothing else seemed to be working.

Sara was out cold, but Thierry's insistent barking and nudging was bringing her back to the world of alertness quickly and she blinked and twitched. Struggling to gain to her feet, Sara's wide eyes took in her surroundings and she snapped at Thierry's paw, disoriented and confused. The movement brought with it a great deal of pain and she yipped and whimpered.

Focusing, determined not to let the pack down, Sara tried again to get to her feet.

Thierry's first instinct was to snap back, a growl to warn her who she was biting at. And he did but it quickly ceased when he began nudging her again, trying to get her back onto her feet. Being this far out meant she couldn't sit around. Thierry barked at another person to join him. They would protect Sara for now. Until, at least, she could stand, and make her way back to the school if needed.

Just as he finished barking, another Otherworlder came at him and Thierry easily took it down, tearing it apart. He would play bodyguard for Sara for as long as needed, but only for a few moments. The other weres needed order and he could only stand by playing defense for so long. He just had to make sure that those who would protect Sara would be ones that could do it right.

Never let a pack member fend for his or herself.
