Thread: Parasites
WHO: Cressida possessed by Hecate, then EVERYONE!
WHEN: Saturday evening, right after dinner time
WHERE: The hunter’s lair, the school, the graveyard, the woods
NPCs: Ms. Menides, hunters

Hecate was known by a number of names, depending on the civilization. The word "goddess" was simply a label placed upon her, though whether she was a goddess or not was arbitrary. Especially now that the whole world hung in a dangerous balance. Beings like Hecate no longer made themselves known and many of them existed as entities now that the rest of the world, and their chief believers, relied more on science than they did on faith. So for Hecate to come into this world, it would take a great deal of magic, and a figure of great faith. Faith did a funny thing to a person. Made them susceptible to serving as a host because he or she would be willing to do it. And in Cressida Hallowfen, Hecate found an extremely willing host.

She'd kept an eye on the witch since she was just a girl. Hecate bestowed Cressida with her first familiar. A Cretan hound that Cressida would affectionately called Argos. Never once had Cressida's faith wavered, even when it lost her a future with the man she loved and perhaps still loved in a way. Such willingness to bend to Hecate's need and her position at the school, so close in proximity to an old friend of Hecate's, made Cressida not just a willing host, but a perfect host.

So when Cressida finally laid down to rest from her long labours spent with other witches to track down the intruders, Hecate acted. Cressida was there still, somewhere in the recesses of this mind, but the psyche was dominated by Hecate, goddess of magic. Wearing a robe over the night gown, she walked barefoot with not only Lord Byron at her heels, but other members of the canidae family that felt the strong influence of Hecate. Foxes primarily and even a wolf that wandered into the area. They surrounded her as sentinels until the possessed form of Cressida saw the Fury.

"Tisiphone," she stated in a voice that was Cressida's but layered with another voice. Like two people speaking simultaneously. Cressida's appearance itself looked different too. In some lights she looked like Cressida and in others her hair was darker, like a moonless night, and her eyes a midnight blue flecked with stars. Even her nose at certain angles appeared different. Grecian, much like the dress that shimmered violet over the dark blue of Cressida's robe.

***

Ms. Menides balled her right hand into a fist. It was done. Before her lay the smoldering remains of the hunters that had dared trespass her school, had dared take the life of one of hers. The ones that had dared, somehow, to bind her in this mortal body and deprive her of her visionary qualities. Her eyes reverted from an intense, furious white to their normal dark shade as her fury abated. For now.

It had been all thanks to Ms. Jordan. She had been able to track the hunters, pinpoint their location. Then Cressida had taken over, gathering the witches among the faculty and calling in help at Nazar. They’d done a powerful scrying ritual, finding the hunters right there, in Camden. At her door. When Cressida had given Ms. Menides the information, the fury had said very little. Possessed by an eerie, unnatural calm, Ms. Menides had risen from her chair and had said but one word, in fact. “Come.”

You cannot stop the Fury.

Ms. Menides had walked into their lair, as easy as if their magic and their locks weren’t even there. She had surprised them, talking at their kitchen table, and Ms. Menides had narrowed her eyes. They began talking, shouting, but Ms. Menides hadn’t listened. The time for talking was done. She had simply shown her true self to them, and then she had let them burn.

“Tisiphone.”

Ms. Menides blinked, feeling a quaint feeling she hadn’t felt in a very long time. Surprise. Huh. She turned around, tipping her head to the side. “Lady Hecate,” she said, giving a sage nod to the woman who was more than Ms. Hallowfen. “It has been a while since I let myself go like that.”

***

It had been some time since Hecate spoke with the Fury. Centuries. Millennia, actually. Years passing to others as an eternity but for Hecate it was an instant. Old didn't even been to describe the ages of the Fury and the Witch Goddess. There was a glimmer of a smile there before her eyes rested upon the destruction left behind. Hell has no Fury. St. Margaret's did. Did the students there even have a passing idea of what sort of woman their headmistress was? Likely not. The smile on Hecate's fast didn't last though and faded as quickly as it arrived.

"There has not been reason to," Hecate said, stepping forward and drawing closer to where Ms. Menides stood, "But it is not over. I come bearing a warning." Magic was a very broad term and words like sorcery and witchcraft also attached themselves to Hecate. The face shifted a little to another, the same dark blue of the eyes but white like the burning of a dying star shimmered, "Something is coming."

It was so vague but Hecate could only see so much. Whatever it was, it was unlike anything she'd ever seen before. As much as people wished and desired for gods to know all, they unfortunately did not. For even "gods" were limited and Hecate found herself frustratingly so.

***

In the graveyard, something stirred. Something not from this world. It had waited for this, waited for the fury to fuel their plan. And now she had. The time had come. This was their chance.

It looked alien. A quadrupled being with a long, forked tail, with sharp claws and teeth. It looked like it was made of skin, bones and muscle, barely any meat on its frame, bones sticking out at every angle. Spindly and thin, but it moved like a predator, more determined than even a cat. And, what was worse, there was intelligence in its amber eyes.

Its tailed flicked. A fissure in the air appeared, seeming to spring up from the broken headstone. It started out small, a tiny tear, but it ripped itself open. Soon, it was large enough. The one on this end let out a little keen as the first of the host jumped through. And then another. And another.

Soon, an army had formed. Not just small ones, as large as a human, but some were bigger and bulkier, the size of minivan. They gathered quietly, looking at the castle as they did. And soon, they had determined there were enough. In the light of the setting sun, they took off: towards the castle. Towards the dorms. This is where they would start.

And through the portal, more kept coming…

***

Bethany and Martin were casualties. However, before their fiery end, their signal had been reached by the other hunters of their Order and those individuals were moving in fast. They had been waiting for this, sign of the Otherworldly ones to try again to break through to this realm. Martin had taken a risk with the vampire to lure them out, and it had worked, but he’d paid for it with his life. They were clever, the beings from the other dimension. The chameleon scout had successfully coaxed the rage from the fury to power their portal.

Hunters from all over were closing in. They knew what was coming. They’d seen it happen in other worlds. Their Order was made up of witches who were in tune with the earth, sensitive to its changes, and the earth itself powered their travels so that most of them arrived just as the portal was tearing wide open.

This wasn’t just a threat to St. Margaret’s. Their whole world was at risk of invasion if they couldn’t stop the flood. The hunters would set aside old grudges and join forces with the Academy to face this greater threat. The enemy of your enemy is your friend.

***

Ms. Menides blinked her eyes. She Knew. Her sense was back, but it didn’t make her feel relieved. She now knew what she had unleashed. “I have been a fool,” she whispered. “We have to get back to the school. Immediately.”

She reached for her phone and, as she strode off, she began calling her faculty. Micah. Micah was most likely to be in the dining room.

FIRST WAVE; FIRST WARNING: Barclay, Jack and Ashton
[info]bark_and_thorns
2015-11-07 07:40 pm UTC (link)
The setting sun dappled the grounds, casting them in orange light. Barclay and Ashton were walking back to their dorm. Ashton was at his most pleasant, his belly full from eating, while Barclay was excitedly telling his boyfriend about a new spell he’d mastered, one where he could make his own skin as solid and strong as treebark. He was going to show Ashton later, as soon as he figured out how to stop spouting little branches.

That later wouldn’t be tonight.

Barclay noticed the way Ashton’s head snapped to the side, hearing something approaching. Barclay looked as well, squinting. He saw them, swarming towards the school. “What the fuck is that?”

FIRST WAVE; FIRST WARNING: Barclay, Jack and Ashton
[info]the_keener

“They’re not from this world,” a voice from behind them said. Mr. Cavanaugh had impeccable timing, as always. He’d been in his office, feeling… something wrong, and when he’d looked out, he’d seen them. Things with claws and fangs and eyes that Jack didn’t recognize. Not from real life, at least. But they looked like images he’d seen, pictures of things that came through where the edges between worlds was thin. Parasites that wanted nothing more than to have another world to live in.

These things needed to be stopped, right now.

“They’re invaders,” he said. “Parasites. They’re coming through from somewhere, but if they get a foothold in this world… We’re all doomed. I’m going to the dorms, but we need…” Jack turned to Ashton. “We need Celebrimbor for this.”

Dining Hall: Sorin & OPEN to everyone in the room
[info]secondself
2015-11-07 08:24 pm UTC (link)
The voice of the druid entering his mind was enough to startle Sorin who was sitting in the dining hall with his friends, finishing up their dinner. He looked up, eyes seeming to lose focus as his tutor spoke. An army? What?!

Sorin was on his feet in an instant. This wasn't one of Barclay's tests. It was confirmed in the voice of the dragon that reverberated through the great hall. The sound sent chills down Sorin's spine and he focused sharply on his surroundings. Gather all witches. Right. That was easy. Except the dining hall had erupted into noise, everyone startled by the dragon and getting up to crowd over to the windows to see what was happening.

"Everyone!" Sorin called out as loud as he could, but his voice was still lost in the uproar. He climbed onto the table, seeing over everyone's heads, and then balled his hands to gather power. "EVERYONE!" Magic carried his voice through the hall over all the other noise and surprised faces turned to Sorin's thin figure. Sorin swallowed, but spoke with power. "There's an army coming. Barclay needs all witches to gather at the forest edge. Now!"

Dining Hall: Sorin & Kaden & OPEN to everyone in the room
[info]bearsoul

Kaden got the call from Ms. Menides and when the Headmistress called, no matter what you were doing - even if it was eating dinner during the hibernation season - you answered.

Kaden locked eyes with the other members of staff in the room and when the dragon roared, he knew there was very little time to prepare. As much as he wanted to order all the students to stay put, locked up for safety in the dining hall until they could take care of this, it wouldn't be an option. They would need all the help they could get to fight this invasion off and even then it might not be enough.

With a grim face, Micah watched Sorin call the witches to go form a circle. He spoke up next, not needing any magic to get his voice to carry through the room.

"Find anyone who is unable to protect themselves and bring them here." Kaden instructed. His chest felt tight as he looked out at the young faces of the students. "And be careful out there."

Outside: Thierry & Open to Weres
[info]wolfsense
2015-11-08 06:20 am UTC (link)
The call from Ashton was a warning. Something was coming and it would be there soon. Thierry's inner wolf kicked in and he was up on his feet, telling a few words to Mr. Kaden on his way out that he was going to help protect the school. It was said without seeking a question and Thierry's shirt was off as soon as he got into the hallway. The shift was done as a process and by the time he rushed out of the front of the castle's doors he was on all fours, covered in fur, and howling to the other weres to follow suit.

It was a good thing that weres were so numerous, especially werewolves. The weres that went out on full moons were large in number and never really had a reason to be unified in what they did. It was a night to let the beasts out because the moon had that effect. Tonight was different and they could all feel it. Thierry barked to the others and they started ahead.

Whatever these things were, they were in for one hell of a fight. The wolves and other animals that made up the weres of the school moved with a strange sort of unity than before. Thierry charged forward and with a few others while another group would flank these creatures from behind. These creatures were a threat to the school and to those that the weres held dear. More importantly, they were invading the school's territory and that was reason enough not to show any mercy.

Outside Kitsune: Daniela, open.
[info]damndead
2015-11-08 08:13 am UTC (link)
The younger Vazquez girl was just heading down the art wing, back to her room in Kitsune when everything went to hell. The loud roar -- unmistakable as anything other than what it was -- coming from outside the building was audible even over the thumping of her music. Daniela stumbled and bit off a curse as she slid the earphones.

Daniela's curiosity steered her towards the nearest windows. "Ni en pedo..." she mumbled as she took in the scene. The dark shapes at the edge of the woods no longer looked as harmless as mere shadows.

Somehow Daniela found herself running towards the doorway and out into the open instead of backtracking. Her heart was pounding, almost in time with the bass of the song still streaming out of the earphones around her neck. What was she even going to do? She had no idea.

So she screamed. A loud high-pitched scream filled with all the pent up frustrations and anger of the past couple of months. Less than a moment later, the scream was joined by the inhuman shrieks of the school's ghostly inhabitants as they were drawn out.

Ouside Sphinx house - Aika and OPEN
[info]fading_dreamer
2015-11-08 09:21 am UTC (link)
The weekends were always well deserved time to just relax. For most of the day, she'd planned exactly what her evening was going to entail and it included the last of her birthday treats, one of her new books and her nice warm bed. With the coming cold, she was finding herself less and less eager to be outside.

Aika had only just gotten to her room when she heard the sound. There was something outside of the school and not even the glass windows could silence the sound. Once more, she pulled on her jacket and started down the stairs and outside with some of the other students. There was fighting going on and what was fighting the students just seemed so inhuman... Aika shuddered.

Not a fighter by nature, she was sure that there was something that she could do. When she saw someone fall, wounded, she knew exactly what. A phoenix's tears could heal and she just so happened could cry very well. Quickly, she started to dart through the crowd in hopes of getting there in time to help.

The Witch's Circle: Barclay and OPEN for witches
[info]bark_and_thorns
2015-11-08 03:24 pm UTC (link)
Barclay's shield held. As soon as Ashton started attacking from the sky, the creatures changed their strategy, going in for the school under cover. They chose the woods, the caves, the school buildings to hide behind, waiting until the dragon had flown by before advancing on the castle. So some went past the witch, but the shield deterred them. It let through students and allies; it was impenetrable for these... parasites.

Barclay was at the center of shield, holding his staff, his eyes closed. When another witch found their way to his circle - some of them escorted by a were, a vampire, someone with raw power; some of them powerful enough on their own - they joined the circle. It had formed around Barclay, witches holding hands, lending their school druid their power. Every witch knew how a circle worked.

Barclay's mind wasn't entirely there. It was going through the woods, touching the trees. Touching all of them. His mind could do this, he could have them all... Yes. It wouldn't take long now. These beasts had their own army? Well, soon, so would St. Margaret's...

Battling in the Air: Ashton, Ambriel and OPEN to other fliers
[info]holier_than_you

Ambriel had immediately sprung into action after Mr. Kaden's announcement. He followed Thierry out the door, who was faster, both as a human and as a wolf. When Ambriel went through the entrance, he could hear Thierry howling. He could see Ashton in the sky, raining fiery death on those below. And he could see them. The enemy. A vast horde of them approaching. Their name was Legion, for there were many.

Ambriel took to the sky, streaking through the air, going right for the Hydra Dormitory. He crashed through the window of his room and retrieved his sword.

He took a deep breath, closed his eyes and sent a prayer to Heaven. Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Ambriel climbed onto his windowsill, surveyed the battlefield for a moment and then jumped into action. Tonight he was an avenging angel, the fury of his Lord.

Where Ashton was a dark shadow, large and looming, Ambriel was a bright star, raining down on those that dared attack lone students, caught out in the crossfire, or cutting down those of the legion that came too close to the castle. The castle would not be breached.

The Academy Entrance: Andrei and OPEN
[info]feral_fangs

There were many ways for a vampire to fight. Some used their powers; some had trained their bodies as ultimate weapons, adept in karate, judo or krav maga; some used guns or swords, katanas or morningstars. Andrei fought like a were, using his body, his teeth, his hands, his strength, his speed. He fought savagely, fiercely.

The castle had to be protected. Once they'd breach the castle, these things could hide, establish a base, find a way to use the castle to kill all those inside. Together with a few others, Andrei was on the steps to the castle, fighting to keep them out. One of those was Mr. Pheres, the larger healer showing he could fight as well as any of the other teachers on the staff.

Keeping the smaller ones away, killing them, was easy. Andrei's clothes were torn and he was covered in black blood, but his eyes were fierce, alight with a passion for war. He was having the time of his life.

And right as he snapped another of those thing's necks, he could feel himself being picked up. It was one of them, but larger, stronger. Andrei flailed in its hold, before using his fangs to bite down in the thing's hand.

The silence in the library was broken by a dragon's roar. Ms. Stheno got up, her snakes alert, and she said, her voice loud and clear: "Stay here. I will find out what this is about."

She left. Paxton felt it in the bottom of his stomach. Something was wrong. Shit was about to go down. He resisted the urge to flee, knowing that inside the castle was probably the safest place to be. So, he wandered over the large windows, and saw them coming. Fuck.

Below, a battle erupted, students and teachers fighting these... these things. They didn't even look like demons, these things were even more feral, more alien. Paxton turned around, noticing some students had left. The rest were also at the windows, looking out. "Okay," he said, "we should keep guard at the door, prepare some things, see if we can barricade it, should the need arise. We have plenty of book cases. We should be safe up here, as long as they can't-"

There was the sound of a window breaking.

"-scale the walls."

He'd been heading back to Ladon after dinner when it all began. Surprise and fear had jolted through his body in a way he wasn't used to. Rider was the type to enjoy life to the fullest, to laugh and party. While he'd been trained to fight growing up, there was never a part of him that actually expected to use those skills.

After a scrambled internal argument over what to do, Rider had sprinted to his room, grabbed his bow, and then ran out toward the woods before he could think too hard about what exactly it was that he was doing. He could see them coming from the woods now, using it as cover from the attacks coming from the sky. His insides went cold at the sight of them. He felt as if his hands were shaking, but when he glanced at them, they were still.

Finding the best vantage point he could and exhaling deeply, Rider grabbed an arrow and fitted it in his bow. His arm drew back and a moment later, an arrow sailed through the air and tore through the neck of one of the creatures.

It was Saturday. A fucking Saturday! Bad enough he had to meet with his PO AND go fill his shift at Duke's Diner, but now that he'd finally gotten to his nap in the sunny spot near the cliffs, he was interrupted by the blood curdling trumpeting of the dragon. Davian had set up straight in alarm, dark hair wild and twisted around his horns in a sleepy flat on one side arrangement, and his eyes were open wide. From his vantage point, Davian could see that the sun was setting, which meant Ashton wasn't supposed to be out in his dragon form yet.

"The fuck?" he mumbled, scrambling to his feet to peer out over the trees. His cry of alarm when the dragon swooped in and breathed flame not all that far from him was cut off by the sudden appearance of a whole squad of THINGS. They were fleeing the dragonfire, some of the creatures already on fire and burning as they ran, and Davian was flushed out of his favorite outdoor nap spot to run for his meager life.

"SHITSHITFUCKFUCKINGFUCK!" he jumped off the rocks, managing to avoid getting caught by the claws of a creature, and then darted straight into the burning forest. Davian's heart was beating at a mad pace, but his survival instincts were keen. He used his demon power, pushing back the flames enough to let him by, but then making them grow in thick again to cut off his pursuers.

Keen as they were, Davian had no great sense of direction, and he ran straight into another group of Otherworlders. The young demon came to such an abrupt halt, tail whirling, that he skidded and fell to his ass. Staring up at the creatures, mouth open, hands scuffed on the rocks and fire at his back, Davian got a good look at them before they recovered too and came after him.

Rolling into a ball, Davian covered his head and tucked his knees up to cower. Or to make himself smaller, which let the fire come past him all the more powerfully from the trees at his command. The Otherworlders were consumed, engulfed in flames that gave the demon a chance to escape. He ran, looking over his shoulder, and a few meters into the forest bumped into yet another creature.

"Are you fucking serious? How many of you ugly fucks are there?!" he demanded, ducking under this hulking giant's legs and running at full speed. These were not demons, not any kind of demon that he'd met, but what other explanation was there?

Fire was on his tail, quite literally, following him through the woods in a wall of blazing inferno - straight outta Hell. Davian's shouts and curses carried ahead of him as he jumped and dodged around trees and fallen branches. Ballet practice really paid off.

Near the Graveyard: Lucia & OPEN

Lucia cradled the shattered pieces of her crystal figurine. She was sitting on the ground inside the outline of a clawed footprint where a battalion of creatures had stomped through, wrecking everything in their path. Somehow the woods had trembled, the tree had shifted, and Lucia's small stash of crystalline and graceful figures had fallen free to the forest floor to be trampled.

Only as large as a wasp, Lucia held the leg of the figure that had once belonged to a beautiful ballerina. She cried, tears of ice dropping from her tiny cheeks. Her precious beautiful crystal shiny things, ruined. She cradled the piece, hugging it to her chest.

Another trumpeting roar came from somewhere in sky and Lucia could feel the ground tremble again as the second wave began. She lifted her head, the sadness within her replaced by another emotion, a stronger emotion, one that filled every small ounce of her.

Anger.

"No..." she hissed out with a snarl, rising to stand inside the footstep. The faerie grew in size, doubling, tripling until she was in her big form. The ballerina's leg was tiny in her hands now, and she clenched her fist around it, breaking the crystal into splinters. The blood that came from the wound it cut into her palm was green and ice cold.

Further in the woods, coming her way, dozens of clawed feet stomped. Lucia began to breathe heavily, her lips pressed tightly together, breath puffing out of her nose in bursts of frosted mist. And then a crackling snapping sound came from beneath her. Instead of twigs breaking, it was ice. Moving and living ice that began to spread from where her bare feet touched the earth out to claim everything in its pass. The temperature on the air dropped dramatically.

Nearby, the arrival of the hunters noticed the faerie up ahead and one paused the other, who had started to draw his iron knife to take the fae down. "No, she's with us. Let her take care of this group. Let's go around before she freezes this whole acre."

The human hunters left none too soon, because the creeping crawling ice had reached where they were standing. It next came in contact with the first of the next wave of Otherworldly beings. Once it touched the first, Lucia's ice jumped quickly, transferring in a flash-freeze from creature to creature, freezing them immediately in place, mid-pose, like the beautiful crystal figures their kind had broken. As more and more were caught, Lucia's angry breaths turned into a loud scream like a possessed churchbell. Her pitch rose higher and higher, more and more frantic in its tones, until it reached that perfect note.

The frozen Otherworlders shattered into bits.

The vampires fanned out in front of him, threading through the trees like an undead brute squad. James watched with a straight face, almost looking bored as Otherworlders came at them and were crushed. One vampire leaped forward, bringing down one of the beasts and twisting its misshapen head until it cracked. The monster screamed, but was quickly silenced. The vampire got up and continued walking with the line, expanding through the forest. Vampires made such good thugs, James thought.

His eyes lifted when the black shape of the dragon swooped over them. Fire lit up the forest and James could hear the dying screams of the creatures under Ashton's new target. What were these things? Where did they come from? And why were they here? James had never seen anything like them. It could be connected to Jonah's death or it could be completely unrelated. No one would be getting answers until the threat was taken care of.

He'd sent out a network communication rather than exhaust himself trying to get in touch telepathically with the coven. While he'd gotten close to some of them enough to easily reach out and connect with their minds, he didn't. James would conserve his power, not show that ability until the occasion truly called for it. People tended to act strangely around him when they found out he was a telepath. No need to put everyone on edge.

James' designer shoes were caked in mud and monster blood and it soured his mood. Pausing to kick a dying creature's head in, James didn't notice the one coming up behind him.

Alicia had been making her way to the Dining Hall when she heard the Dragon's roar. She had never heard Ashton roar before...at least not an actual roar, she did like getting him riled up after all.

She took off running the rest of the way to the Dining hall and by the time she arrived she was out of breath. But she arrived just in time for Sorin's message that the school was under attack and all witches were to report to the forest edge. She was okay with the idea of defending the school of course but something else was much more pressing to her. Bushara

Alicia cast a quick charm, one she knew well. It was a locator spell. A small orb of light formed and flew off towards Bushara and Alicia took off after it.

Infirmary: Cressida (Closed)
[info]magikos
2015-11-09 09:35 pm UTC (link)
Hecate's return to the school was moments before the arrival of the creatures. She could feel the body growing increasingly weaker and knew that she could not remain for much longer. She would not leave Cressida's body in a place vulnerable to attack. She was, after all, a favored form and one that Hecate might use again, though she hoped that time would not come. The other animals drifted away, going to defend their home and all that remained was Lord Byron following obediently behind the goddess taking his witch's form.

As she entered, Pheres was on his way out. He paused briefly at the door, looking over Cressida and noting the difference. But he didn't have time to process more because a fight called for his attention. No words exchanged save for a comment about an empty bed available. He departed and left Hecate to slowly walk across the floor barefoot. It's cold sensation lost on her and Cressida too far back in her own psyche to come to the forefront to acknowledge it.

Hecate climbed upon the bed, laying down and she felt Lord Byron's head find its way beneath the palm of her hand. Cressida would not like waking up to find the battle over, regardless of who was victor. She was strong, capable, and a talented witch. Her magic would be useful in this fight but not in her current state. The goddess spent too long in her body and when she would return the body to Cressida, it would need rest, as would Cressida's own weary mind.

"Take care of her," Hecate spoke in the ancient tongue, "She will need your strength." Lord Byron whined and then nuzzled his face into her side. Hecate closed her eyes.

The steady breathing slowed, hitched, and then resumed again. Hecate was gone. Cressida remained but her body worn from stress, exhaustion, and more recently, possession, needed to rest. She slumbered deeply for now with Lord Byron watching over.

The Awakening: Barclay and OPEN

Musical suggestion: Obv.

With every witch added to the circle, Barclay's reach expanded. He didn't recognize all of them - Sorin, obviously, his benevolent magic making Barclay feel grounded; a touch of fire; an older woman that seemed entirely unfamiliar (a hunter, the circle whispered); and someone that felt suspiciously like Leon, or at least, like a broken reflection of him - but every added witch gave him a surge. Barclay didn't much like circle magic, wanting to do things himself, but there was no denying the power.

His mind expanded. He could feel them, the trees, rising from their deep slumber. He was aware of what they were aware of: the creatures crawling the forests; the vampires fighting back; the portal at the graveyard; the fire they feared; the druid asking them to rise up and fight. These were his woods, their woods. And this was his land. A witch always had responsibility for the land, for the living, for the people and the animals and the trees. Barclay felt the headache, felt the blood dripping from his nose, but he knew he had them. He knew what their answer would be.

And so, he pushed.

His mind stretched and stretched and stretched, encompassing as much as he could. Barclay gripped his staff and the shield faded, the circle of witches released from their hold as all their energy was channeled into the druid and from him, into the trees.

Barclay opened his eyes. They were a pure, vibrant green. He opened his mouth, not looking at any of them as he said, with his voice and the voice of a thousand trees: Thank you. And then: Go.

It took a few moments before anyone noticed, but the noises in the forest had changed. Wood creaked alarmingly. Branches shook. Roots uprooted themselves, curling out of the earth. The silent creatures slithering through the underbrush started snarling, screaming and hissing as the wooden sentinels began to grab, and tear, and crush. And then, slowly, the trees began moving. Advancing.

The army of students and teachers had done very well in holding off the army of the Otherworlders, keeping the main host out of the castle. But now, they had allies: bulky, sturdy, giant things made out of wood and animated with magic that began sweeping through the parasites, crushes as they want.

Defense turned into offense. Now, St. Margaret's could push them back.

Ambriel swerved through the trees, a bright beacon that kept cutting down all the enemies he could find. He rose to the sky and disappeared into the castle, using one of the broken windows. A few moments later, a monster was thrown out of another one, a large oak waiting for it and snapping its neck. Two more followed, before Ambriel emerged again, swooping down low to clear the walls of any stragglers.

Ambriel didn't see the one hanging under an archway. It jumped out from above, landing on the angel. Ambriel swerved, scraped against the wall, before managing to turn and shake the parasite off before the angel crashed into the ground. Ambriel to return to the air, but something big and strong grabbed him by the ankle. Before he could respond, he was swung, right into the thick, strong wall of the academy.

Before the brute could crush the angel, the large oak intervened again. Ambriel laid in a heap at the base of the wall, his arm at an odd angel, his wings disheveled. The divine light had gone out of them.

Ladon Dorms: Bushara and Open to anyone not involved in combat

2015-11-10 12:22 am UTC (link)
Bushara had been planning things for months to find a way to get Andrei out of the dorms and completely focused elsewhere, and now the most perfect of opportunities simply fell right at her feet. Naturally she was concerned for those who were unable to defend themselves, but she was not all that big on combat herself. Sure she could defend herself if she needed to, but she typically would simply rather no longer be susceptible to physical attacks. It made life easier to do that after all. Now that she had this golden opportunity where Andrei would not be concerned with his dorm room because of the distraction of a fight, she was certainly not going to waste it.

She swept over to the Ladon dorms the moment she realized that Alicia was alright. She carried with her the stone her beloved had given her long ago as well, and she moved towards Andrei's room. She would still be unable to steal it herself, but she could easily convince another that the ring was of vital importance and she needed to get it to their precious mentor as soon as possible. She looked for anyone that was still near, for if they were near they were not the type to get into a fight, and even called out for help. She would get her ring back tonight, and Andrei would soon regret not giving it to her when she asked for it.

Corinna had only just transformed in the Ballroom when the creatures had begun their attack. At first she wasn't sure what was happening since she had remembered there was supposed to be some sort of Kitsune prank occurring at some point, but then one of the creatures crashed through the window of the large room. Despite the hind being the size of a small bull, she was still as skittish as a normal deer; therefore, her first instinct was to run, and this room was not going to be enough tonight.

She burst through the doors with ease and began to move at great speed towards the woods. She would be safe there; however, upon seeing that the creatures were making birth from that area, she began to veer around looking for another place. She didn't care where she went, she just needed to get to safety, and that meant being far away from this place.

She found a spot with the smallest number of these monsters and began heading for it, her mind completely forgetting that the direction she had chosen led towards the town. She simply did not care at that moment. She could not let herself be captured again.

Katherine had just finished eating and was on her way back to the dorms. The day had been pretty nice. Thus far she hadn't come into accidental contact with anyone, she didn't have any more homework to do, and a new episode of Doctor Who was coming on tonight. She was pretty much just heading back to the dorms to grab a couple of things before she went to Emmy's room to watch with her. She was dressed in jeans and a long sleeve Once Upon a Time shirt featuring the gorgeous Captain Hook.

The night really was just perfect until the sudden otherworldy roar reached her ears. She looked to the sky to see what was going on and began hearing even more sounds. Before she even had the opportunity to wonder what was going on she found herself staring straight at a creature that could have easily been ripped from a nightmare.

The creature began moving towards her, and she began moving backwards as it did so. Her voice was only managing to make yelping sounds. Only one other time had she ever experienced terror like this, and that only other time had been when experiencing someone else's past. This time it was she who was staring into the eyes of what could be her killer, and she let out a shrill scream of terror.

Dallas was seated in the dining hall with his lovely wife when he heard the roar. His eyes locked with the other staff members. Kaden seemed to have this under control. With a quick glance and Therese he pulled her into him giving her a firm kiss, "Stay here, protect the students. I'm going to hold them off." His hands went to the sword her had started wearing as a precautions once this all started, "I will come for you once it is done, I swear it."

With that he turned and raced outside. His hand was on the hilt of his sword preparing the draw it when the time came. His eyes glanced around the grounds seeing many groups doing there best but it was a long way to go. With that he pulled out his sword and gave it a quick twirl in his hand as the other formed a softball sized fireball.

"Time to go to work," and took off running into the battle.

The Lake: Adina (solo)

Adina had been on her way back to Sphinx taking her time enjoying the moonlight while she could. Since the students weren't allowed out at night she was forced to get her swims in during the daylight so the moon charging energy she had to take in the small doses. Now Adina wasn't a witch or any kind of psychic but she felt something was off and it was confirmed when she heard the dragon roar.

Adina froze and glanced around as strange bug like creatures starting appearing. Her breathing picked up and the first idea that came to her mind was finding a safe place. The lake came to mind and with that she took off running towards her sanctuary.

She dodged past them as well as she took the familiar path in the woods. The pond appeared and without hesitation she dove in. She heard the other nymphs chattering about the disturbance in the woods. Adina let her nerves calm as the water surrounded her. She would just stay here, safe and hidden. Hidden...hiding...her mind went back to the last time the school was attacked. That man had made her worst nightmare come true and took her. He tortured her and the others. This place was her home. How dare he...how dare they attack her home.

Her anger bubbled up and in that moment she decided that this was unacceptable. No one attacks her home. Adina had always felt this immense power inside of her, it was so intense she had shied away from it. This past summer she practiced taking just a little bit of it to make her able to form water on her own. She didn't dare release it not sure what it would do. Now...now she was no longer afraid. Pushing off the floor she made her way to the surface her nymph features shining through. Her eyes glowed purple and behind them a fire she had never felt before.

The water held her up as she stood. The allure of the nymph was tempting to all. While these creatures didn't desire her the way others did, they still felt drawn to a 'helpless' little girl. She let them come closer then spoke in a tone she had never used before,

"You attack my home...I will not allow it. Feel the darker side of the tides," with that she shut her eyes and let go. The water rose up behind her in a giant wave. It rolled with the currents but stayed still behind her. Two smaller waves came to her side and her eyes shot open as he shot her arms forward. The force behind the water taking two in the face. She let the water pound them into pulp. Here eyes snapped to others that had frozen their trek forward. She brought her arms back then shot them forward again then clapping them together as two were caught in a large sphere of water that she focused to still completely. Water pressure increased the more static water was. She saw the creatures try to struggle and she smirk. She then saw the body jerk and still with that she released it the water returned into her body. The groups never seemed to stop. She let her eyes graze over the group.

"My sisters should be allowed to have some fun as well," she turned to the side and allowed the large wave to rise and fall in front of her catching the ones who approached. The strong undertow dragged them into the lake where the nymphs were waiting. "Have at them my sisters." Adina said as the angry nymphs wanting to protect their home drug the creatures deep into the lake.

Adina walked forward now on land. Water swirled around her as she raised her hands to the trees that were ablaze dousing them, she knew the dryad would appreciate that.

Outside: Rafe (Narrative, but Open)

Rafe stood near the entrance of the school armed with a blade that had long time been his friend. He'd gotten it on his travels years ago and maintained it over the decades. The shamshir's blade was sharp enough to slice through skin without a person noticing until it was too late. He held it in a familiar grip and watched the forest as he made his way in with a calm walk. Almost like he decided to take an evening stroll while carrying a sword that normally would be sitting in his office at Pegasus's dorms. Only he wasn't alone. Not exactly. Behind Rafe the air seemed to grow increasingly dense as fog formed. Thicker and thicker it became until it became almost impenetrable.

This felt strangely familiar to him. Normally he had his crew there with him. Morleo leading the way and the group of them creating a fog so thick that you couldn't see your hand right in front of your face. It was what made the Flying Dutchman so hard to find and what made them the stuff of old legends. No Davy Jones aboard that ship, though they did have two crewman once who had the name Davy and Jones respectively. It was a pity that Davy and Jones and Morleo weren't there. They'd probably enjoy this quite a bit.

As the creatures drew closer, Rafe smirked softly to himself and allowed the fog to engulf him. The Otherworlders charged in and what followed was a merry dance of death. Rafe moved with unmatched grace and control. It wasn't wild or savage, but the work of a man with centuries of battles to refine his skill. The Otherworlders that entered into the fog didn't stand a chance and when the fog began rolling back, those that entered remained in pieces on the ground until Rafe stood there, wiping some of the blood from his cheek that splattered there.

"Dewch ymlaen," he beckoned in his native Welsh, "Gallaf wneud hyn drwy'r nos."

Rafe didn't rush forward and instead kept his casual pace. The Otherworlders attacking and he used what senses he had available to track them. He walked forward and occasionally to the side to side-step an attack. Rafe cut off limbs and apendages, a head rolling here and there. They were learning quickly that this man wasn't like the vampire that their scout killed before. He wasn't young and inexperienced, lost and blood-thirsty. He was perhaps more frightening than that.

Cool, calm, and collected. A few began backing away, maybe to find another way around or perhaps to go back to where they came from. The few that remained were silenced quickly and Rafe started in the direction the others ran to ensure that if they weren't already rushing back to their world with their tail firmly between their legs, he would help them along.
