Claire had always been good at reading people another, and more desirable, skill she gained from her mother. She nodded at Teddy’s words. She understood being used to family always being around, always being together then suddenly that changes. She felt much the same with Doyle, who was the closest thing she had to a brother. Growing up it was always the two of them together…always. But since they got to St. Margaret’s they don’t see each other as much. Of course she likes it here and has made other friends, but there are times that she wants her “brother,” she wants Doyle. He’s the one person she trusts about anyone…even her parents. She can tell him anything and he never judges her. He’s always the one who holds her after a vision and promises to help her decipher the riddles. She was brought back to the moment when Teddy started talking again. She made a mental note to plan some one on one time with Doyle soon.
“I’m glad you stayed out of its way…it was tough…scary now that I think back to it. When it was happening I didn’t have time to be scared. It pushed thoughts it to my brain about how it was going to go after my mother…that she’d never see him coming. My mother is human in case you didn’t know. She’s a tough lady bearing a werewolf child, but she’s still vulnerable. I was grateful that my father was here. They’re mates… bound together for the rest of their lives, he would die to protect her.” She nudged him with her shoulder, “Come on, don’t sell yourself short. I bet you could have done something, you have light magic, that’s powerful. My cousin Doyle wants to focus on that. When he was younger he learned dark magic from our…sort of uncle…distant relative it’s complicated. But dark magic always comes with a price. You can do amazing things but you usually have to sacrifice something of yourself and sometimes of someone else in order to make it work. Doyle didn’t like having such a heavy price tag attached to magic…no matter how powerful,” she paused, “But Teddy, you just have to focus and learn, you’ll get it and I’m sure if you train hard enough next time a Wendigo comes to town, Andrei and I can leave it to you.” She tapped his nose with her index finger and then tousled his hair slightly as she gave him a bright smile.
