Bert's face had remained passive as they talked, but he did feel a surprise when Ben said he didn't roofie Leon. That had been a theory the teachers had speculated on to account for Leon's supposed memory loss. Ben was saying he didn't roofie hm, but he also seemed to have a reaction to Bert saying that. Was it surprise? Was it something else? Was Ben lying to him now? Bert was sure Ben wasn't tellng everything, but he didn't get the sense that the student was lying, though Bert did know it was a possibility. If Leon wasn't given a drug to effect his memory, was the witch lying about the memory loss? Was Leon hiding something? Bert wasn't sure what to believe.
"I believe you", Bert told him. "And I want to help you. But I'm not sure how. What do you need that will help you?"
