Thread: Settling In
Who: Daniel Dyami and Jamaal Jacobs
When: late Sunday morning ( after Ms. Menides and Mr. Pheres's return to the school )
Where: Ladon House
NPCs: Daniel's father and little brother, Ms. Menides, Mr. Pheres
He was finally on his own. Since arriving at St. Margaret's, Daniel had almost constantly been under someone's watch. At first it had been his father, who along with his younger brother, had come to Maine with him to get him registered and settled in and evaluated by the school healer. The school Headmistress had met with Daniel, outlining all of the rules he would have to abide by while staying at the school. Mr. Pheres, the healer, had evaluated Daniel's injured arm and given his prognosis and treatment plan to Daniel and his father. The healer confirmed that Daniel had been shot in the wing (arm) by a silver bullet. The fact that it had passed through had probably saved Daniel's life, but Daniel still had to contend with the severe breaks his arm had suffered in the fall. Time would heal this wound, and as long as Daniel let it heal and didn't aggravate it, he was told he should be flying again before the end of the calendar year. Until then, he would be remaining at the school, where he would be safe, especially during the full moons.
Done with the healer for the moment, and thankful for that, Daniel found himself alone in his dorm room in Ladon House. He'd only been in it briefly, when his dad and little brother were still there and had been helping him move in. The things he'd brought with him, which hadn't been much, were still in boxes and bags on the floor. Leaving his dorm room door open, Daniel began to open boxes and unpack. He was still working one-handed, his right arm, the dominant one still in cast and sling. He hadn't changed yet either, still wearing the basketball shorts and sleeveless tee he'd slept in the night before. Changing was a hassle right now because of his arm, he'd wait until he needed to.
He moved some of his clothing from boxes to the drawers of his dresser, then stopped to rest for a moment. Daniel sat on his bed, looking out the window. He'd been disappointed not to get a room with a view of the mountains, but it did seem that nature, whether moutnains or woods or water, surrounded the property in every direction. Daniel did like that. He scooted closer to the window and moved to open it, wanting to feel, smell the outside air. He unlatched the window latches, then began to push up on the old window. One-handed, it took more effort, a lot just to get it to budge a few inches. He felt the heat immediately, oppressive. It felt even hotter outside than earlier. There wasn't much of a breeze to be felt either, though Daniel could detect a hint of the smell of the ocean to the air. For a moment, he looked contented, then moved to shut the window again.
