Hemingway didn't hear her come into the apartment, he was too busy focusing on the bouncing boy. When Abi spoke, Charlie stopped bouncing instantly, and he and Hemingway gave each other a wide-eyed look of having been caught.
It very quickly dissolved into excitement at her presence. Charlie launched himself from the bed into his mother's arms, and Hemingway turned- initially a little cautious, a little wary. It was Abi, but was it his Abi?
A slow smile spread across his face as he took in her appearance. Younger again. Less gaunt and worn out. Just his Abi - sunkissed, a little dazed and confused perhaps, but it was her. He moved and just joined in on the hug with Charlie, squishing them together.
